Nats Notes: February 17th
- By Dalton Scantling
- February 17th, 2010
Today is one of the most exciting days in baseball.
Pitchers and catchers report to spring training on this lovely day in the northeast.
While we continue to look at snow outside, the pitchers and catchers get to migrate south down to Florida.
That's enough jealousy for now, time for baseball talk.
Ron Villone agreed to a minor league deal today.
He will receive an invitation to spring training.
Villone spent most of last season with the Nationals where he posted a 4.25 ERA in 63 appearances.
Brian Bruney had his arbitration hearing yesterday, and it didn't go quite the way he hoped.
Bruney was seeking a $1.85 million, and didn't get too bad of a deal.
His contract will be worth $1.5 million in 2010.
He posted a 3.92 ERA and...

Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that Chien-Ming Wang has agreed to terms with the Washington Nationals.
The Washington Nationals official site has not confirmed the signing, but Wang jerseys are available for purchase on their site.
.
Wang battled a shoulder injury last season and put up less than spectacular numbers.
He posted a 9.64 ERA and a 2.02 WHIP in 12 outings, but was solid prior to last season.
In '06 and '07 he recorded 19 wins, with a 3.63 ERA in '06 and a 3.70 ERA in '07.
He is expected to miss the first month of the season as he's still recovering from shoulder surgery.
If Wang can get healthy and get back to his '07 form, he will be a great addition to the Nationals rotation.

The Washington Nationals have signed right-hander Matt Capps to a one year deal.
The terms of the contract have not been released yet.
Capps will serve as the Nationals closer, and recently acquired Brian Bruney will move to a set up role.
The main reason Capps chose the Nats over the Cubs was the chance at a closing role.
Capps said "They are giving me an opportunity to close out the ballgame, which was important to me, I feel that is an opportunity I'm going to have.
It's going to be a lot of fun in Washington.
I'm looking forward to 2010 and beyond.

If I pitch the way I know I can pitch and the team has the success they should have, it's going to be a lot of fun."

Nats Expect Speedy Manager Decision
- By Dalton Scantling

The Nationals wrapped up the season on Sunday with a win in Atlanta. Now that their season is over, it’s time to start improving on next year’s team. This all starts with the hiring of a manager. The Nationals had been managed by interim manager Jim Riggleman since they fired Manny Acta on July 12. This is familiar territory for the Nationals. Just three years ago they went through this process. That time it dragged on for a while and lasted roughly six weeks before they chose Acta over the other candidates. Washington doesn’t want the process to drag out this time around. They want to get it done as fast as possible. When asked about the situation GM Mike Rizzo said “I think we're going to begin as soon as...
