Everybody Get Jazzed!
  • By Jay Mitchell
  • October 28th, 2009

Have you ever heard the saying that seconds seem like minutes, minutes seem like hours, hours seem like days, days seem like weeks, weeks seem like months, and months seem like years? While it has only been about 6 months since the last Utah Jazz game (preseason excluded), it has seemed more like 6 years to me. Maybe it was because of all the hype that was surrounding the offseason.

Nobody knew whether Carlos Boozer,  Mehmet Okur, and Kyle Korver were going to stay in Utah or use their opt-out clause.

There were questions surrounding what was going to happen with Paul Millsap.

There was so much hype but not a lot actually transpired from all of it. Boozer, Okur, and Korver all decided to stay put for one reason...

A New Approach to Defense
  • By Jay Mitchell

Once know for their physicality and stingy defense, now the Jazz are usually just know for their physicality.  Sloan would rather his players foul instead of giving up a layup, but this sometimes leads to foul trouble and wide open three-pointers for the other team. Finally, after years of hacking opponents at seemingly every given chance, it seems that the Jazz are trying to fix the problem. The Jazz have decided to have their video coordinator review every single defensive possession of every game and grade the players individually based on a variety of different criteria, mainly related to help defense.

The Jazz have even been leaving every huddle by saying "1-2-3 DEFENSE." While talk about change is cheap, it is definitely encouraging to see that the Jazz are making an emphasis...

Boozer Regaining Old Form

Over the last few games Carlos Boozer has started to look like the Carlos Boozer of a few years ago.

You know, the Carlos Boozer that the fans in Utah loved before he became the oft-injured player that couldn't keep his mouth shut. Let's look at his past two games against the Clippers and the Bobcats.

Against the Clippers he scored 20 points on 9-15 shooting and also pulled down 8 boards in just 24 minutes of play.

Last night against the Grizzles he dropped 22 points on 9-11 shooting and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes.

It even seems like he is making at least somewhat of an effort on the defensive end too. The question is this: If Boozer continues to put up solid numbers and...

Carlos Boozer: A Publicists Nightmare
  • By Jay Mitchell
  • October 19th, 2009

I think there is only one job in sports that I wouldn’t want to have: Carlos Boozer’s publicist. It seems that every time he talks I have to think to myself: Did he really just say that? First there was the whole “I'm opting out. No matter what, I'm going to get a raise regardless.” At first that doesn’t seem too horrible, but the fact that he said it while he was out with an injury that caused him to miss more than 40 games makes it worse. Oh yeah, in case you didn’t hear, he didn’t opt out either. Then when Boozer finally came back from his injury there was a question as to whether or not he would start or come off the bench. ...

Deja Vu? Injury Bug Strikes Early

Anybody that followed the Jazz last season knows that they suffered an insane amount of injuries throughout the year. I had hopes that maybe part of the reason the Jazz underachieved last year was because of these injuries and that maybe if they stayed healthy this season they could make some noise again. Then the injuries started to pile up, before the season has even started. I just recently started a Twitter account so I could follow my beloved Jazz more closely. I almost wish I hadn't. I logged on today and what did I see from @Utah_Jazz? "CJ Miles suffered a thumb injury to his shooting hand, details coming in a release..." "Korver is suffering from an inflamed left knee. He is listed as questionable for tomorrow" "Fesenko sprained his right heel during today’s practice....

2009-10 Utah Jazz Preview
  • By Jay Mitchell

Ahh… Here we are, having finally reached October, which can mean only one thing: the NBA is fast approaching! I’m sure you all know what happens in the preseason: supposed experts give their insanely early predictions on the Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player, 6th Man of the Year, Coach of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Western and Eastern Conference Finals matchups, and even the NBA Champions. Now it is absurd to try and predict all of these things before the games even get started, but hey, it’s fun right? It’s almost like the Easter Bunny at Easter. It makes no sense, but hey it’s tradition! I am a man that hates to break tradition and loves to have some fun, so here are...
