Raptors Still Lack Defensive Stops Despite Recent Victory
  • By Vincent Muambi
  • November 5th, 2009

If last night's victory over the Detroit Pistons taught us anything, it's that the Raptors would probably wind up as one of the worst defensive teams in the National Basketball Association. No kidding aside, this team can score at will with the likes of Jose Calderon, Chris Bosh, Andrea Bargnani, and Hedo Turkoglu on the floor. However, the Raptors are heading into an eight game road trip against Western Conference teams starting this Friday, and defense would be the main focus once again. The Raptors so far started their season at a 2-2 mark, but realistically the Raptors should have started with three wins, when you factor their disappointing loss against the Memphis Grizzlies last Friday. Jose Calderon, who has been taking the heat for the team's defensive laps, knows he has to play...

The Raptors Are a Changed Team

When the dust finally settles, the Toronto Raptors would come across as perhaps the most improved team in the entire Eastern Conference. Newly hired coach Jay Triano finds himself in a situation where he'll inherit a team comprised of twelve new players, most of them acquired through trades. The Raptors were able to address a number of issues that had affected the them last season; with Colangelo going out of his way by dramatically remaking the face of the team from the fourth man to the fifteen on the bench. Colangelo was able to address the rebounding issue by acquiring both Amir Johnson, a young and athletic big man who can run down the floor and play under the hoop, and Reggie Evans who provides his defensive intensity and hard-nosed approach. Antoine Wright is...

The Raptors Show Some Improved Play in Second Loss
  • By Vincent Muambi
  • October 7th, 2009

The Toronto Raptors lost their second straight exhibition match in two nights against the Philadelphia 76ers.

But the play against Philadelphia was an improvement for most of the game compared to the previous encounter in London. Sonny Weems and Amir Johnson provided a burst of energy and dunks in the last quarter of the game, star players Chris Bosh and Hedo Turkgolu were absent again for the second straight match. Jay Triano has to be pleased with the way his team performed tonight, however even Triano would have to admit that there is still room for improvement. Most of the second half consisted of both bench and third stringers of the Raptors lineup but more importantly, Triano had a chance to see what the newly formed makeup of the Raptors’ bench would...

Toronto Raptors Can Be Contenders this Season
  • By Vincent Muambi
  • October 7th, 2009

The Toronto Raptors are primed to be contenders this season, whether you agree with that assessment or not. There are those who would argue that even though the Raptors are improved, there's still much to be debated about concerning the outlook of the club, especially with a new coach in Jay Triano, and a completely remolded lineup that consists of ten new players. Antoine Wright, rookie forward Demar Derozan, Jarret Jack, Federico Belinelli, Hedo Turkoglu, and Amir Johnson are among the ten new faces that Raptors will start with this season. Enter Jay Triano, who takes over as a full time coach for the first time, with Marc Iavaroni and former Raptors guard Alvin Williams coming into the fold as new assistants. It symbolizes the most dramatic makeover that Bryan Colangelo has ever underkaen...
