Maple Leafs Weekly Recap(Nov. 8-14)
  • By Svyato
  • November 15th, 2009

It was back to old ways for the Toronto Maple Leafs this week. After a week where the Leafs left with 5 out of a possible 6 points they shut down for this week. This week the Leafs came away with 0 out of 6 points dropping all three of their games. In a week where Shane was talking about how the Leafs could get away with some good points he couldn't have ended up more wrong in his life! Sorry Shane. Here are this weeks results for the Toronto Maple Leafs: Minnesota Wild def. Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 Chicago Blackhawks def. Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 Calgary Flames def. Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 In a game that had Leafs fans thinking it would be an easy win, we were all proven wrong. We were walked...

What Should the Leafs Do With Jiri Tlusty?
  • By Shane House

One thing that I have realized about Jiri Tlusty is he cannot make the step to the NHL. In the AHL he is impossible to contain, loves to shoot the puck and can stick handle in space that’s smaller than a phone booth. But in the NHL, that’s a whole different story. He looks undersized, unwilling to work and overmatched by bigger players. His speed is absent and he often tries to do too much with the puck with little effect. Basically he is unable to do what his god given talents were made to do. Score goals. He showed a little promise playing on a line with the great Mats Sundin, but then quickly showed the traits I just spoke of. But as I said before, I have a theory that could be crazy...

What Are The Contributors To The Leafs New Found Success?

What kind of turn around the Leafs have had in recent time. Not only have they gotten points in their last 7 games, but they have also got a two game win streak to boot. So what was the cause for this recent turn around? I will admit that some of the cause for the turnaround is the additions of Phil Kessel and Jonas Gustavsson back into the line-up. But there are other reasons as well. One of the biggest reasons for the team’s turnaround in my opinion is the better play coming from the special teams. From this time two weeks ago, the Power Play has gotten better, rising from 16th two weeks ago to leading the league as of today with a 26.6 success rate. The biggest change that has happened that...

What Is Wrong With The Maple Leafs?
  • By Shane House
  • November 9th, 2009

How do you fix the Toronto Maple Leafs? That is the question. The problem is that the answer is much more complicated. As I sat in front of my television watching Ian White stop more pucks than Vesa Toskala, I had a thought. The thought was how could a team that supposedly got better over the off-season be having such a bad start to this season? I mean we did get tougher in getting players like Colton Orr and Mike Komisarek. We also got better offensively by signing college rookies Tyler Bozak and Christian Hanson while also trading for Phil Kessel (who must be petrified after watching this season unfold so far.) So what is the issue than? Well one of the biggest problems that the Leafs are facing is confidence issues. The first game...

Five Rookies That Could Make An Impact This Season
  • By Shane House

When the Toronto Maple Leafs started last season, there was not much reason for optimism. Cliff Fletcher fully admitted that the Toronto Maple Leafs were going  into rebuilding mode and that it would take a couple years for the Maple Leafs to be a contender once again. Plus with him admitting that there was only one real top six forward (it being Nik Antropov of course) going into training camp, expectations were at an all time low. There was reason for some hope with the team. Cliff Fletcher did draft our new golden boy in Luke Schenn with the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. But with an almost bare cupboard for prospects with the team, not much else excitement was being generated within the team. Justin Pogge was showing...
