Padres Profile: Pitcher Chris Young

Padres Profile : Pitcher  Chris Young Bats/Throws: R/R HT: 6'10'' WT: 280 Bio > Chris Young has become the Padres ace by default.

After the trade of Jake Peavy, Young is the Pads most decorated player, and the one with the most upside.

At 6-10, Young literally towers over the competition.

I think CY is the reason that the Padres have decided to corral so many tall pitchers, no one can touch Young when he is on his game. Young has been down the last couple seasons, with injuries and Albert Pujols line drives off his dome, which has hurt his overall production.

This spring has been devoted to finding CY a way back into his groove. CY can win 15 games this season, and more with some support.

CY can win 15 games this season, and more with some support. San Diego has the components of a winning season, the key is not leaving pitchers like Young out to dry when they are tossing a 1 run ballgame. I cannot tell you how many times one of the Padres starters has gone 7 innings, given up 1 run and taken the loss.

Padre fans have to thank Kevin Towers for acquiring Chris Young, he fleeced Texas yet again, giving them reliever Akinori Otsuka for Young in a lopsided trade that the Rangers are still reeling from. Texas NEED’S help with starting pitching, more than any other position. I dont even know where Otsuka is this season, but he is not the closer that Texas envisioned when they made the deal.

Only CY’s shoulder can keep him from a good season, his rehab has been on schedule and there have been no set backs so far.  Out since last June, Young will be monitored pretty strictly this spring. the pitch count will be in play, especially for Young’s first couple spring starts.

Padres Profile: Outfield- Kyle Blanks

Padres Profile: Outfield- Kyle Blanks Bats/Throws: R/R HT: 6'6'' WT: 285 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyle Blanks is my favorite Padre player at the moment, no one on the Padres roster has more upside than this massive kid,  who reminds me of Frank Howard.

Blanks is playing out of position in left field, but he may move back to his natural slot at first base if the Padres decide to deal Adrian Gonzalez.

In either position, Blanks represents the best of the Padres farm system, one of the best prospects this team has brought up in decades. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blanks has the most raw power seen in a Padre uniform since big Dave Winfield patrolled the outfield in San Diego, all those years ago.

KB went deep 10 times in 122 at bats during his Padre debut last summer, driving in 22 runs.

Blanks has the most raw power seen in a Padre uniform since big Dave Winfield patrolled the outfield in San Diego, all those years ago. KB went deep 10 times in 122 at bats during his Padre debut last summer, driving in 22 runs. What makes those home runs impressive is not the total , but the distance.
———————————————————————————————————————
Blanks CRUSHED the ball when going deep, the kind of swing you see on ESPN and say GOODBYE before the ball ever leaves the yard. No Padre has flashed that kind of power in the last 10 seasons, and with the onset of the non juiced player era upon us, natural power becomes even more of a valuable commodity. Blanks also fielded left field without embarasing himself, at 6-6 and 285 pounds, KB is quite a sight to behold once he gets going after a ball. Catchers are going to be hearing footsteps when Blanks approaches the plate.
————————————————————————————————————————–
San Diego would be wise to spend every minute it takes to help develop Blanks, every team needs that one guy that can take it to the house when ever he is at the plate. KB can be that guy, I see big things for Blanks this season. Grab him mid round in your fantasy drafts, the kid will be a steal.

Should The Padres Keep GM Kevin Towers?
  • By M.T. Robinson
  • February 23rd, 2010

Well, its almost Black Monday. Time for the Padres to decide which direction they are headed in 2010. GM Kevin Towers leads the list of front office personnel who have a chance of being let go. Anytime new owners take over a business, changes are made, and Towers has to be feeling somewhat insecure. For every success Towers has had, Padre fans can list at least 3 failures. Too many time during Towers tenure, talented players have been shipped out with virtually no return. Yes he picked up Adrian Gonzalez for a song, but far too  many productive players have been dealt for basically nothing. I understand the Padres financial position, but to continually expect the fans to pay top dollar, when they are not getting top dollar results is ludicrous. What I...

Padres Press: Offseason Notes
  • By M.T. Robinson

Padres Press: Off season notes- November 10, 2009- Catcher Nick Hundley had surgery on his sports hernia, and expects to be ready to go by the beginning of spring training. Hundley has the inside track as the Padres starting catcher, but don't be surprised if the Friars bring in an outside catcher or two, for some competition. Utility man Edgar Gonzalez elected to become a free agent, rather than accept a demotion to triple A Portland. Gonzalez was beaned last July by the Rockies Jason Hammel, and spent much of the remainder of the season on the disabled list. Brother of Adrian Gonzalez, Edgar hit .269 as a Padre. Gonzo had a decent bat, but he had hands of stone, he should be able to hook up somewhere as a DH. Kevin Kouzmanoff...
