Lawrence Timmons

Inside Linebacker (One year starter)

Height:6′1”

Weight:234 lbs.

College:Florida State

His mother named him Lawrence Olajuwon Timmons due to her passion for the NBA. His middle name was in honor of Hakeem Olajuwon.

During his high school years he played both linebacker and tight end for Wilson High School in Florence, South Carolina where he earned Super Prep Elite 50 honors along with being named the Defensive Player Of the Year. He also got to play in the East-West Shrine game which is held at the end of the year for all seniors that are chosen.

During his years at Florida State he was relegated to mostly special teams duties due to Ernie Sims being the teams starting linebacker. Once Sims was drafted in the 2006 NFL Draft, Timmons took over.

His junior year was a good one, as he posted 79 tackles and five sacks. He was a third team All American and a first team All Atlantic Coast Conference Player that season.

His Florida State career ended with 126 tackles and eight sacks.

Lawrence Timmons was the Steelers first selection in the 2007 NFL Draft, number 15 overall.

As a rookie he played in all 16 games and recorded 13 tackles for the Steelers, playing mostly on special teams with some mop up time at linebacker.

During the 2008 season he received more playing time, as he was being groomed to take the place of Larry Foote who would not be re-signed following the season.

That season he racked up 65 tackles, five sacks, and one interception. The interception.

The 2009 season is Timmons first season as the Steelers starting middle linebacker alongside James Farrior. He currently has 23 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and four passes defended.

He was kept instead of Foote due to his athleticism and his superior ability to play the pass, his speed is really good for a linebacker, and he can play any linebacker position in the Steelers defense.
