Sixers Destroyed By Celtics
- By Brian Joseph
- November 4th, 2009
For a few minutes, there seemed like there was a chance.
Up 15-8 in the first quarter, the Sixers were in pretty good shape until hometown boy Rasheed Wallace came off the bench for the Celtics.
Then things went completely south as Boston outscored the Sixers 97-59 the rest of the way as the Celtics won their fifth straight.
For the Sixers, there was little to take away from this game as a positive.
They shot 36.3% from the field, went 1-for-16 on threes and even shot below 70% on free throws.
If there's any silver lining, the Celtics are demolishing teams.
They have beat their first five opponents by an average of 21.6 points per game.
It's the third best start in NBA history.
No team has scored more than 90...
Sixers Blow Big Lead, Knicks Lose Another In OT
- By Brian Joseph
- November 1st, 2009
It was a nice distraction if you remembered it was going on last night.
As the Phillies failed to hold an early 3-0 lead over the Yankees in Game 3 of the World Series, the Sixers were spanking the Knicks in their home opener...
until the 4th quarter.
With a 70-51 halftime lead and 96-81 lead after the 3rd quarter, the 76ers decided to make it interesting in the 4th and let the Knicks tie it up and send the game into a 122-122 tie.
In OT, though, it was all Sixers.
Outscoring New York 19-5, the Sixers took down their second win in as many games and are 2-1 on the season.
The OT spanking was especially impressive with a 17-0 run that gave the Knicks a sixth consecutive win over...
Sixers Grab First Win At Cost Of Few Bucks
- By Brian Joseph
- October 31st, 2009
Maybe no one noticed the season opener since it lined up with the Phillies-Yankees World Series opener.
At least that was what the Sixers were probably hoping when they opened the doors at the Wachovia Center on Friday night.
The bad news: Only a little of 14,000 showed up for the home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks.
The good news: The Sixers did show up, especially in the second half, and grabbed the first win of the Eddie Jordan Era in Philly.
Things we learned about the 76ers on Friday night:
They won't go 0-82.
They still could start out as poorly as the Wizards did last year in their last season with Eddie Jordan at the helm (1-10 before getting the axe!)
According to an AP Report, a man exclaimed to a security guard that...
Preseason Game #1 -- Sixers 107, Raptors 98
- By Brian Joseph
- October 31st, 2009
The Sixers opened the '09 preseason with a 107-98 win over the Raptors. Philly led by as many as 23 and the game looked a lot closer thanks to a late run by Toronto. The two play a second game tonight. Shining Star: Lou Williams scored a team-high 17 points in 24 minutes. He shot 6-for-8 from the floor including 2-for-3 on three pointers. He also added 3 assists. Bench Boost: Jason Kapono's 12 points in 14 minutes off the bench provided the Sixers the opportunity to outscore the Raptors by 18 while the new Sixer was on the court. He also went 2-for-2 on threes and added four assists. It's Jrue!: In his rookie debut, Jrue Holiday played 15 minutes off the bench and scored 7 and made both three pointers he...
Welcome to the "Stubborn" Eddie Jordan Era?
- By Brian Joseph
- October 31st, 2009
The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. New head coach Eddie Jordan's first week as the head of the Sixers looked to introduce a little insanity to the organization with his decision to crowbar Andre Iguodala back into the lineup at shooting guard. Maybe it isn't insanity if Jordan didn't try it even if the Sixers saw the Iguodala "Shooting Guard Experiment" fail miserably last season. Heck, the new head coach of the Sixers didn't even watch any footage from last season of Iguodala in the shooting guard role early last season. In fairness to Jordan, Iguodala is a talented player with great skill and the Sixers have more of their talent in the forward positions. So, pulling off a successful transition...
5 Things We Learned From Training Camp At St. Joe's
- By Brian Joseph
- October 31st, 2009
Yesterday the Sixers wrapped their '09-'10 Training Camp Session at St. Joseph's University. Here's a few things to chew on about this year's Sixers that came to the surface throughout the five days of practice under new head coach Eddie Jordan: The Jordan Rules By replacing interim head coach Tony DiLeo with Eddie Jordan, the 76ers guaranteed that the '09-'10 season won't end exactly like last season did. As the Sixers blew a golden opportunity in last year's first round and disgruntled players blew off steam about DiLeo's lenient ways, popular opinion when DiLeo took his name out of the running was the Sixers needed a disciplinarian to run the show. Enter Jordan who has preached from Day One discipline, detail and the Princeton Offense. In Jordan's world, practice counts and effort...
