The last time we saw the Oakland raiders play a football game, it was against the divisional rival who they’ve managed to lose thirteen straight games to, the San Diego Chargers.
I have a feeling that many football buffs took the fact that the Chargers let the Raiders stay in the game as a sign that the Chargers were not nearly the team they were cracked up to be at the start of the 2009 football season.
I, however, took it as a sign that the Oakland Raiders are actually on the verge of turning that corner.
Due to the recent win by the Chargers over the New York Giants, dare I say that I might have been correct?
Now, I of all people know not to jump on board the Raiders are back bandwagon, but it has been on a very rare occasion over these last six abissmal seasons that I have felt like the second half of the season might just be better then the first half.
This is where I currently find myself; wanting to believe, but knowing not to get my hopes up.
Here is the problem; the Oakland Raiders have been playing without their best offensive lineman, Robert Gallery, since week two this year. The Raiders have been playing without their best wide receiver, Chaz Schilens, since the first week of preseason. The Raiders have been missing right tackle Cornell Green since week four of the year, as well as tailback Darren McFadden.
For those of you who are math geniuses, that is four starters missing for the last four weeks or longer.
Guess what, they are all expected to be back this week. Here in lies another problem though, we have expected WR Chaz Schilens to be back since week seven against the New York Jets.
He claims there is still soreness. The coach says that he needs to work through it this time.
Interestingly enough, the Raiders have given him nearly fourteen weeks to recover from an injury that was expected to be a six to nine week deal.
So, Raider fans, and readers of all sorts, I cannot tell you that better things are coming. All I can tell you is whats being told to me.
According to head coach Tom Cable, there is a new energy in the huddle.
In addition, this is the healthiest team the fans will get to see so far this year.
If we can expect an effort like the one put forth in San Diego over the next eight weeks, then there is a chance Oakland may win the five games needed to get off the ten loss season track.
If we can expect to see effort like that which has been presented over the miserable last six Raiders seasons, then we may see a new head coach, and a new system being put in place yet again.
May the force be with you Oakland Raiders.

i’d like to see the effort put forth the rest of the season with a healthy roster that matches the effort and intensity that was on disply for the eagles game… just score more points obviously!
I think the effort was there for S.D. too, I think they are starting to come together as a team, and I hope they keep it up.
Also, running the ball should take precendance (sp.) over trying to throw all the time.
They ran a lot against Philly, and won.
They ran a lot against the Chargers and were in the game until the final minutes.
They need to keep going right on the path they are on, and they will get to where they want to be.
Al Davis just needs to have faith, nix what the fans think, keep the staff another year.
