It has been said several times in the past few weeks that this team plays with no energy, heart, or motivation.
Jeff Garcia said there was no desire in them, but of course he wasn’t man enough to try and change the atmosphere.
Earlier this week, New York Giants LB Antonio Pierce said playing against the Raiders offense was like a scrimmage.
He said even when the Raiders were out there getting pounded in their facemasks, there was no player who stood up and said “C’mon guys,” or gave them a “Let’s go!”
So what is Oakland’s problem, are they just a group of players out to collect a paycheck? Or are they Tom Cable’s “53 men committed to one purpose?”
Tom Cable continues to say that the team is close, in spite of the final score on the scoreboard.
Oakland players continue to cooberate his seniments. Yet, according to someone close to an inside source, even the three and a half hour plane ride home from New York held very little player passion.
Is it the disappearance of Chaz Schilens, the teams young receiver who appeared to be headed for a breakout season prior to a broken foot which has kept him out eight weeks?
Is it the injury to the apparent commander in chief of the offensive line Robert Gallery?
Who is going to step up and be the leader of this offense?
Somebody has to do it, somebody has to take charge. Oakland’s hoping to have Chaz Schilens back this week, and they are hopeful that he can provide a spark to a nightmarish performance so far this season.
Oakland has failed to reach 200 yards of offense for four straight games. Teams have keyed on the running game, and when the Raiders pass, normally bad things happen.
In the not often times when JaMarcus can hit his targets, the receivers fail to catch it. Some have said he throws it too hard, but that is rediculous, this is the NFL, where you get paid to catch the football.
Zach Miller and Louis Murphy (aside from his drops) have been the only bright spots on offense so far this year.
Someone in Oakland needs to show some heart, desire, and effort this week against Philadelphia, and I wouldn’t count on it being Al Davis either.

Good article, B.A.. In all honesty, Al is old and the NFL has passed him by. He lives in the past and has made bad management decision over the past 10 years. He needs to step back and get a good GM to make the roster decisions. He has a poor head coach in Cable and I see nothing improving. They will continue to battle the Chiefs for the cellar till he (Davis) steps aside.
