Mets Moves So Far
  • By eteichman

Now is the time of the offseason where most teams are busy with excercising and declining options while players start to file for free agency. Here is what has happened in that regard with the Mets:

Declined an option to Putz

Exercise Pelfrey’s option

Move Bowman to the 40 man

Players filing for Free Agency: Delgado, Schneider, Cora, Ramon Martinez

Declining the option to Putz makes sense right now and is  a move a lot of people have predicted. He needs to reprove that he can pitch effectively. There has been some rumors that the Putz has interest in returning to the Mets in an incentive style deal. If that is the case, I’m ok with that, if its going to cost the Mets a sizable amount of money, then they should start to look elsewhere.

Pelfrey’s option is a no brainer. It was also 500,000. Once again, a no brainer.

Moving Bowman was a very important move for the Mets and I am glad they did that. Since he is on the 40 man, he will be protected in the Rule Five draft that will be happening soon. If he went into the Rule 5,  he would have been picked up by another team.

No surprises with players filing for Free Agency. Hopefully this means that Delgado will start his carear as a DH, which is what his body needs.
