Montreal Canadiens are Holding On to Playoffs Hopes
- By miah
- March 17th, 2010
After all that the team has gone through – the injuries, the goaltending controversies, and the resignation of the General Manager...
– who knew that a playoff berth would actually look this hopeful?
Waking up on this beautiful day of March 17th, the Montreal Canadiens stand on the sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
They are four points away from the Boston Bruins, who still have two games at hand.
Boston is facing the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday and the New York Rangers on Sunday.
The Habs have gone 7-1-0 since their return from the Olympic break.
Jaroslav Halak has given his all, start after start, since his return.
Although he came short of a Bronze Medal, he came back with the Canadiens on top of his game.
Carey Price, on the other hand,...

- February 25th, 2010
The Montreal Canadiens reportedly resumed practice yesterday.
After a two week break, the players who have not been invited to the Winter Tournament hit the ice to prepare for the final rush to the playoffs – or the golf course.
Meanwhile, we are down to the semi-finals in Vancouver and of the five Canadiens players invited to represent their respective countries, only one remains and it is no one else than goaltender Jaroslav Halak.
But in the first of this series of articles, let’s go back in time to recap one of our stars and his team’s tenure during this journey.
Sergei Kostitsyn –Belarus.
It was without sidelined Andrei Kostitsyn that Belarus took on Finland on February 17th.
With a Finnish team led by no one else than former ten year Habs Captain, Saku Koivu,...
The Montreal Canadiens Continue Season Sans Bob Gainey

Time flies.
It seems it was yesterday that the team traded for Scott Gomez; which had fans make a fuss over the $8 million contract that comes with it.
Then Guillaume Latendresse got traded.
We barely had the time to realize what just hit that Georges Laraque is released by the Montreal Canadiens.
The following month, Bob Gainey steps down as General Manager.
It was through a rather relax and humorous press conference that the team management made the announcement of Gainey’s resignation.
He is being replaced by Pierre Gauthier who has been Assistant GM since 2006.
He won’t be completely out of the picture however, keeping a close watch on the operations and assisting Gauthier in his decisions as well.
Desiring to decide of his own future, a few months ahead of the end...
Montreal Canadiens Face Nashville Predators, Try to Stay in One Piece
- By miah
- February 9th, 2010
Montreal Canadiens GM Bob Gainey let go of so many people during the summer that the team seems to get ready to encounter a former member at every game. And sometimes, if they are not on the ice, they are in the stands (Guy Carbonneau). The Habs already faced Mike Komisarek, Alexei Kovalev, Chris Higgins, Steve Begin, Alex Tanguay and most recently, Robert Lang. On Saturday night, it will be Francis Bouillon’s turn as the Habs visit the Nashville Predators. Bouillon was signed by the Canadiens in 1998, and has played most of his career with the team; except four games with the Predators who claimed him off waivers in 2002. After realizing that Gainey’s plan regarding his contract was “no plan at all”, he decided to go back to the Preds...
Montreal Canadiens Face Alex Ovechkin to Start A Tough Weekend
- By miah
- February 9th, 2010
The Montreal Canadiens posted one heck of a dramatic win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. More and they would be forbidden to people with heart problems – actually with their inconsistency, they should! For most of the third period of that game, the issue did not look very promising; a goal in the wrong net and we would have probably talked about hiring a new coach right now. But as hard as winning against the Carolina Hurricanes seemed to be, it looks like a piece of cake next to what awaits the Habs tonight: the Washington Capitals. As if the 55 shots on Price against Nashville were not stressful enough, as if Price’s toe-save during the shootout was not scary enough; Alexander Ovechkin had to make his comeback this week. He actually...
Montreal Canadiens Fall to the (sic) Toronto Maple Leafs
- By miah
- February 9th, 2010
Tuesday was supposed to be a great day. The CFL champs Montreal Allouettes and IBF super middleweight boxing champ Lucian Bute were presented at the Bell Centre. Moreover, it was that time of the month to present the Molson Cup to whom it was earned by; and the November’s winner was Carey Price. Last night was supposed to be “victory night.” Moreover, last night’s game opened the centenary celebration week for our Habs. One hundred years ago, the team was two days away from being officially presented as the “Montreal Canadiens”. Now, 24 Stanley Cups and more than a decade later; the Bleu Blanc Rouge had to fall to one of their most hated rivals: the Toronto Maple Leafs. The loss against the Washington Capitals last Saturday was really painful, and it was hardly...
