The Minnesota Wild defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 in a shootout Tuesday at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia in both teams final preseason game.
The Wild won the shootout 3-2 in four shooters. The Flyers elected to shoot first and got goals in its first and second shooters. Mikko Koivu and Martin Havlat tied the shootout as the Wild’s first and second shooter. The two teams were tied after the third shooter, before Antti Miettinen won game for the Wild.
The Wild fell behind early after giving up two goals in the first period. It struggled early while being outshot 11-6 in the period.
Havlat got the Wild on the board with power play goal from Koivu and Brent Burns midway through the second period.
With less than five minutes remaining the second, Brent Burns tied the game off a pass from James Sheppard. Koivu picked up his second assist of the game.
Despite tying the game with the only two goals of the second period, the Wild were outshot 11-8.
After giving up a goal early in the third, the Wild tied the game again with a power play goal by Cal Clutterbuck. Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Kim Johnsson recorded assists on the goal.
The Wild took its first lead of the game at 15:20 when Sheppard buried an open puck in front of the net. Burns picked up the assist. The Flyers tied the game less than a minute later. The Wild were outshot for the game 37-21.
The Wild finished the regular season with a 3-4 record.
