Since September 12, the day the Twins lost 2006 AL MVP Justin Morneau, Mauer has led the team to a 12-4 record, and a suddenly resurgent Twins club is in the thick of the race with the Tigers.
On top of team success over that time Mauer has batted .392 with 11 RBI’s, 15 walks and has increased his batting average, on base percentage, and OPS significantly over that period of time.
I feel the MVP was debatable up until about the time when Morneau went down.
What happened after that has all but solidified Joe Mauer’s MVP award.
Sure Mauer may not have the lofty homer, and RBI totals that Mark Texeira boasts, or being team captain of the team with the majors best record in Derrek Jeter.
