Oleksiy Pecherov Could Be The Diamond In The Rough In The Foye-Miller Trade

Consider this:

I am not making an assumption that Pecherov is a starting 5 or 4 for that matter.

It’s highly apparent that he has not displayed consistancy yet. But for this team, a couple of his games have been quite impressive, and he looks to be an excellent role player off the bench that can hit the 3 point jumper.

Olekisiy Pecherov was aquired in a trade that sent Randy Foye and Mike Miller to the Washington Wizards for the 5th round pick, Etan Thomas, Olekisy Pecherov and Daniel Songaila.

He was considered to be irrelevant to the trade, but it’s apparent that with Ricky Rubio not coming over, we essentially traded Foye and Miller for Pecherov, and couple of 2nd round picks with the rights to Ricky Rubio. With Rubio is spain, Pecherov is the only thing that’s on the team that’s of any value (and is in a Wolves uniform).

Although he’s a average defender, he has had moments where he has made the opposition really work for their points. He’s not an extreme leaper, but his shooting ability is valuable to a team that needs 3-point shooters.

He’s shooting 38% from the 3-point line in the preseason, and just turned in a great game against the Detroit Pistons: 20 points, 10 rebounds shooting 8-12 from the field and 2-2 from the 3-point line.

He’s a shooter, and up until he was traded to the Timberwolves, he has not been utilized as an option. There’s a feeling in my gut that if Pecherov can post 10 point-5 rebound performances, that he has a few years as a Timberwolf, regardless of the Wolves drafting a center in the draft.

C- (draft pick), Hollins, Pecherov

PF- Jefferson, Love, Jawai

Of course one would have to be cut, but Pecherov played a great game… and that’s all I’m saying.
