Jonny Flynn: A Wolf in Wolves Clothing
  • By Matthew Hayden

When it comes to leadership and personality, Jonny Flynn already has the mental skills to allow his teammates to let him dominate the ball.

I have to admit, that watching this video, almost makes me have a man crush on Jonny Flynn, being a true Minnesota Timberwolves fan. YouTube Preview Image.

Also, check out my self made video on Jonny Flynn’s summer league play. YouTube Preview Image.

Jonny Flynn has been officially given the tools to the Wolves offense, and it appears that he’s slowly getting better and better as the preseason goes on.

When it comes to turnovers in the summer league, Jonny Flynn averaged almost 5, but in the preseason, not so much…

Preseason stats: 13.8 PPG, 4.2 APG, 1.0 SPG and 1.0 RPG, shooting 43% from the field and 36% from the 3-point line.

But what’s impressive, is that he’s doing it in a complicated triangle offense, that’s limiting his talents, so that he adjusts to the hard things first so that in theory everything falls into place.

Jonny Flynn plays the pick and roll with the best of the NBA, with blazing quickness and fearless tenacity in drawing fouls in the post.

“It’s definitely a tough situation,” Flynn said in an interview with FanHouse. “It’s the toughest position on the floor to be a rookie. First, a guy has to have leadership and to have everybody on the same page. It’s definitely a lot easier that some of your peers are the same age,” Flynn said. “When you bark on somebody 35 years old, he might be looking at you as ‘you’re young enough to be my son’ or something like that.”

But don’t leave it to me to tell you that Flynn is good, leave it to other players to tell you themselves.

“He’s a good player,” said Toronto point guard Jose Calderon. “He’s got good moves. He’s strong. As a rookie, the first year is always the toughest one. But he’s talented.”

“He’s fast,” said Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony. “He’s quick and can score the basketball. He’s going to be a good point guard.”

“He’s top 3, if not the best point guard in the draft”. -Brandon Jennings

Yes he still has a lot to learn, but with games in which he posted 10 points and 8 assists and 19 points and 5 assist, he’s well on his way to average 14 points and 5 assists next season, with the only thing limiting him, would be Ramon Sessions.

“It just takes time, it takes a lot of time to get used too”. “But it’s a great system, and we’re just getting better, as time goes on we get better”.

Speaking with a true confidence in a deep monotone, no one will deny that Flynn is a 6-footer that plays larger than life.  Jonny is a wolf in wolves clothing, and he’s howling loud.

I’d like to have some fun, and do his career high predictions:

Points: 29, Rebounds: 6, Assists: 12, Steals: 4, 3-pointers made: 5, 3-pointers attempted: 7, Free throws made: 18, Free throws attempted: 20, Minutes played: 50

Those career highs seem a little conservative.
