One thing that is important in a rookie’s progress is learning the NBA game, but Wayne Ellington has shown head coach Kurt Rambis that he already that he knows the NBA game well, he just has yet to prove it on the court.

“Moving without the ball, coming off screens, choosing his spots, those are things that he just appears to do well already”- Kurt Rambis.

Wayne Ellington is a pure example of an off guard, meaning he plays his best ball without the ball. But in North Carolina, he sometimes showed glimpses of athleticism, often dunking the ball YouTube Preview Image for a shooter with such soft hands and a soft touch. But with a 38 inch vertical, who wouldn’t be able to?

In the NBA summer league, Jonny Flynn and Wayne Ellington showed tremendous chemistry, both shooting over 50% from the 3-point line, with Jonny Flynn converting nearly half of his assists all to Ellington on the wings and perimeter.

But for Ellington, his first game was a rough one. He shot 2-12 from the field with no 3-point field goals. He appeared to be moving too fast, have been nervous and was overly excited.

But his next game in which he slowed down, he had 22 points, shooting 8-14 from the field and 4-7 from the 3-point line. Ever since that game, Ellington barely slowed down, posting 19,17 and 10 points respectively while shooting 9-16 from the 3-point line.

Now that the Wolves are in the preseason, Ellington had another bad debut, only having 2 points, shooting 1-6 from the field with no 3-point field goals.

He was bothered with an ankle injury, so he missed a few games, but despite that, his first 4 games were a disaster, averaging 4 points on 7-30 shooting.

Ellington finally got a better feel for the game, as he went for 12 points, shooting 5-8 from the field, and 2-3 from the 3-point line.

He appeared more confident in his shot, and played to his strengths instead of his weaknesses.

Hopefully, this is a sign that Ellington has broken through, and will put up 10+ point performances.
