Dodger outfield even more crowded

  • March 3rd, 2010

If Juan Pierre had stayed with the Dodgers for the 2010 season, he would soon realize that there is almost no room left on the Major League roster. It was announced on late Wednesday evening that the Dodgers came to terms on a Minor League contract with outfielder and ex-Angel Garret Anderson.

He will make a base salary of $550,000 plus incentives if he makes it to the Major League club.

This will be Anderson’s third team in an outstanding 16-year career. The signing of Anderson likely puts him at the front of the line to be the fourth (or possibly fifth) outfielder for the Dodgers.

On the plus side, Anderson also provides a left-handed bat that Los Angeles has been searching for this off-season.

Last season, he had 13 home runs...

Opening Day is this Friday! Well…for Spring Training at least.

On the bright side, the sooner Spring Training is over with, the sooner the real Opening Day can arrive. This Friday, the Dodgers open up their Spring schedule against the Chicago White Sox.

It will be the Dodgers second season in the Cactus League. Vicente Padilla is scheduled to start for Los Angeles.

Fifth-starter candidates Ramon Ortiz and Charlie Haeger are scheduled to follow Padilla.

In relief, expect to see Luis Ayala, Scott Dohmann, and former White Sock Jon Link. Chicago will counter with Mark Buehrle, who is already scheduled to be the Opening Day starter.

In relief, expect to see Jeff Marquez, Scott Linebrink, J.J.

Putz, Santo Luis, and Freddie Dolsi. Dodgers and Dodger fans alike may be glad (or not) to see...

Spring Opener this Friday

Dodger fans can certainly be excited to know that Spring Training is just around the corner.

In fact, they open up their pre-season schedule this Friday against the Chicago White Sox. Of course, with every Spring Training comes many questions for teams to answer.

So far, this is my list of questions I’ve come up with. 1.

Who will be the fifth starter? This is one of the more obvious questions that has been floating around all winter.

With the re-signing of Vicente Padilla this past winter, the Dodgers now have their 1-4 starters assigned.

However, they’re still searching for that one player to round out the rotation.

The long list of candidates includes Eric Stults, Charlie Haeger, James McDonald, Scott Elbert, Russ Ortiz, Ramon Ortiz, and Carlos Monasterios.

Many believe that Stults...

2010 Dodgers Roster...Second Base
  • By Steven Jones
  • March 3rd, 2010

Well I know it's old news by now, but it was announced last Thursday that 6 Dodgers filed for free agency. On Friday, Manny Ramirez decided to exercise his 2010 $20 million option. So what does this mean for next years roster? First things first: let's talk about who's leaving. The six main players that will be leaving the Dodgers' roster are pitchers Randy Wolf, Jon Garland, and Eric Milton, All-Star second baseman Orlando Hudson, and infielders Ronnie Belliard and Doug Mientkiewicz. Right away, I see three holes the Dodgers will need to fill. Hole #1: Second Base. I honestly loved watching the O-Dog (or O-Dawg if you prefer) play in a Dodger uniform. He welcomed himself quickly into the hearts of Dodger fans when he hit for the cycle in the...

Dodgers have options for fourth outfielder
  • By Steven Jones
  • March 3rd, 2010

When the Dodgers sent Juan Pierre to the Chicago White Sox in December, there was a little less traffic in the Los Angeles area in terms of their outfield. At this point, some fans are hoping they can get some of that traffic back. It was reported on both Dodgers.com and ESPN.com/LosAngeles that the Dodgers have narrowed their search for a fourth outfielder down to four outfielders. The names included are Garrett Anderson, Brian Giles, Gabe Gross, and Reed Johnson. Both sources have expressed that the Dodgers are closer to signing Johnson more than any of the other three players. Last season with the Cubs, Johnson his .255 with four home runs and 22 RBIs and showed great versatility with the ability to play all three outfield positions. His playing time was...

Another outfielder lands in Los Angeles
  • By Steven Jones
  • March 3rd, 2010

It was confirmed on late Sunday evening that the Dodgers had officially signed 39-year old Brian Giles to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Major League camp. Giles only played in 61 games last season due to an arthritic right knee that prevented him from stepping onto a field for the remainder of the season. He didn't fare too well before the injury either, as he only hit .190 with two home runs and 23 RBIs before the injury. Over a week ago, Giles was rumored to be one of the four players the Dodgers were pursuing as a fourth outfielder. The Dodgers instead decided to sign Reed Johnson as the fourth outfielder and backup to Manny Ramirez. Giles now has a couple of options. He could either become the fifth outfielder...
