Transition to “Patriots West” Continues: Chiefs Name Crennel Defensive Coordinator
  • By Craig Brown
  • January 13th, 2010

The re-building efforts of the Kansas City Chiefs arefull steam ahead, with the 5-11 Chiefs already adding new offensive and defensive coordinators since the end of their season.  Last week, former New England Patriots offensive coordinator and Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis became the Chiefs new offensive coordinator.  Today, the Chiefs announced their defensive coordinator next season will be Romeo Crennel, who directed the Patriots defense while Weis and Chiefs GM Scott Pioli were also in New England.  The Chiefs clearly have a plan, attempting to replicate the success of the dynasty years of the Patriots franchise in the Midwest.  If the new direction of the Chiefs yields even one-third of that success, as in at least one Super Bowl victory, the pain will all be worth it in the end.  That of...

Mock NFL Draft 2010 – Top 10 Picks
  • By Craig Brown
  • January 10th, 2010

Hey look, I'm not pretending to be Mel Kiper Jr.

or his baby brother wanna-be Todd McShay...I'm just saying here's a knowledgeable fan, slightly swayed in favor of the Chiefs of course, giving his early input to the 2010 NFL draft. 1.  Jimmy Clausen - St.

Louis Rams:  Is he the best player of the draft, no.  Is he the best quarterback of the draft, it's debatable, but I think so.  While this pick is likely to come down to three men, Ndamukong Suh, Russell Okung, or Clausen, I have to take the logical approach and side with Clausen.  The Rams have spent their last two #1 picks on defensive lineman, neither of which are game changers thus far in their careers.  Suh looks tremendous on tape, but so did Steve...

Weis Hired to be New Offensive Coordinator for Chiefs
  • By Craig Brown
  • January 6th, 2010

According to sources including ESPN, Todd Haley and the Kansas City Chiefs have hired Charlie Weis to be their offensive coordinator next season.  The ties to the Chiefs are obvious for Weis, who shared time as an assistant under Bill Parcells with the New York Jets.  Weis also served as the New England Patriots offensive coordinator during Chiefs general manager Scott Piolis' days with the three-time Superbowl winners.  Haley has already let go of two Chiefs' assistants in defensive line coach Tim Krumrie and offensive line coach Joe D'Allessandris.  Many fans and media have speculated that former Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel may also be reunited with Pioli, as Crennel served as the defensive coordinator for the Patriots prior to taking the Browns post.  As of Wednesday January 6th however,...

Chiefs Stun Steelers in Overtime
  • By Craig Brown
  • January 6th, 2010

The Kansas City Chiefs have endured a difficult season thus far in 2009.  The plethora of change, both administrative and personnel, has been painful for the Chiefs and their faithful followers.  With only two wins against Washington and Oakland, the squad had yet to register a signature win for the new regime.  Today's game at Arrowhead could be the moment in time the Chiefs can look to in the future as a turning point in the franchise.  With a stadium seemingly over-taken by the terrible towels of Steelers' fans, the Chiefs stunned the defending Superbowl champions in overtime, 27-24. Statistically, the Steelers dominated the game.  They outgained the Chiefs 515-282, with a 114-68 advantage on the ground and 401-214 through the air.  They sacked Matt Cassel five times and held a 17-7 lead at...

Chiefs Dominated By Unbeaten Giants 27-16
  • By Craig Brown
  • January 6th, 2010

If you were fortunate enough to spare yourself watching this game live, do yourself a favor and delete it from your DVR.  What?  Come on, they only lost 27-16 you say - trust me, do yourself the favor and don't watch. If you were so unfortunate as to witness this game, you're likely as disappointed as I am with the effort put forth by the Chiefs vs. the heavily favored Giants.  I'm sifting through game tape and stats sheets, trying to find something to comment on in a positive manner. Um...Sean Ryan led the Chiefs in receptions, catching 5 passes for 58 yards and a touchdown.  Brandon Flowers recorded an interception, and the Chiefs registered two sacks, one each by Tamba Hali and Mike Brown.  Chiefs faithful, that's about all I have...

Fantasy Preview: Cowboys at Chiefs
  • By Craig Brown
  • January 6th, 2010

This week 5 matchup pairs two teams linked in more ways than Sunday's game.  The two shared the city of Dallas as it's home in the early years of the separate AFL-NFL, with the current Kansas City Chiefs originating as the Dallas Texans. Both teams have their plates full of questions after four games, though the Cowboys certainly have fewer.  Most of them center around the performance of QB Tony Romo, who appears lost without his sidekick Terrell Owens, and a defense that is ranked near the bottom of the league in most statistical categories.  For Kansas City, the struggles are more difficult to put a finger on, primarily because there are only ten fingers to use.  So much change, so little going right for the Chiefs to start the year. Below are the likely...
