Baskett is know for his super model girlfriend Kendra Wilkinson, and his infamous poor handleing of an onside kick in the Super Bowl. Chappell also doubts that Matt Stover and Tim Jennings will return.

Baskett played in 12 games in 2009, 11 of them with the Colts. He caught five passes for 34 yards in his worst NFL season. Baskett’s best season came in 2008, when he started six games and caught 33 passes for 440 yards and three touchdowns. Baskett has started 11 career games, and has caught over 1,000 yards in his four year career. He has also played with three teams in those four seasons.

If Baskett were to return in 2010 it would be in a smaller role. Anthony Gonzalez will return in 2010, and Roy Hall will compete with Baskett for the fifth receiver on the roster, if they even cary one.

Phil Richards of the Indianapolis Star is reporting that Indianapolis Colts middle linebacker Gary Brackett wants to retire as a Colt. According to Brackett’s agent, Brian Mackler, Brackett has expressed desire to remain a Colt. Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reported earlier that the Colts were engaged in talks with Brackett.

According to La Canfora, the Chargers could get Brackett re-signed before the start of free agency. The Colts do not have any other middle linebackers on their roster, with Freddy Keiaho also a free agent (restricted). It appears like Brackett will be a Colt in 2010, hopefully what appears will be true.

Brian Biggane of the Palm Beach Posat is reporting that the Colts could signArizona Cardinals middle linebacker Karlos Dansby if Brackett is not re-signed. According to Biggane, the Giants and the Dolphins are also rumored to be interested in Dansby. Even if the Colts lose Brackett, don’t expect this to happen, Dansby would be more expensive than Brackett anyway.

Scout.com is reporting that the Indianapolis Colts have signed six players to future contracts.

Drew Willy – Quarterback – 6-3 – 217

Undrafted in the 2009 Draft out of Buffalo, Willy was signed by the Baltimore Ravens, who released him before the start of the 2009 season. After the Colts placed Jim Sorgi on injured reserve, they signed Willy to their active roster. After one week on the Colt’s active roster, he was released and signed to the Colts practice squad. Willy has incredible leadership and character, but he lacks an NFL arm, and is not very strong.

John Matthews – Wide Receiver – 6-0 – 197

Considered the most prolific wide receiver in San Diego State history. Was not drafted in 2009 as a rookie, and signed with the Colts. Released before the start of the season, and spent time on the Colt’s practice squad. Matthews is small for a receiver, and would work best in the slot. He is a very poor mans Wes Welker.

Jaimie Thomas – Offensive Guard – 6-4 – 330

The Colts picked Thomas in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL draft out of Maryland. Thomas has a 78 inch wingspan that helps him pass block effectively. Like Matthews, Thomas did not make the Colts 53-man roster and spent time on the Colts practice squad. Thomas is probably a better run blocker than Kyle DeVan.

Taj Smith – Wide Receiver – 6-0 – 192

Went undrafted out of Syracuse in 2008, and signed with the Green Bay Packers. Failed to make the Packers 53-man roster in 2008. Spent time on the Colts practice squad in 2008 and 2009. Signed by the Colts late in 2009 season. Released a day later after he was arrested for DUI. A very poor man’s Marvin Harrison.

Brandon Renkart – Linebacker – 6-2 – 245

Signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers in 2008. Has spent time on Arizona’s and New York’s practice squad in his NFL stay. Renkart was the college teammate of colts defensive tackle Eric Foster.

Terrail Lambert- Cornerback – 5-11 – 195

Signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame in 2009. Did not make the 49ers 53-man roster, ans spent time on the Colts practice squad in 2009. Lambert is super fast. He has been clocked running a sub-4.3 40 yard dash. He ran a 4.21 40 yard dash at the Nike Combine.

Middle Linebacker – With Gary Brackett an unrestricted free agent, and Freddy Keiaho a restricted free agent, the Colts do not have any players on their roster who are middle linebackers. The way things work right now, Phillip Wheeler would move to inside linebacker, and Ramon Humber would become the Colts starting weakside linebacker.

Free Safety – Like middle linebacker, the Colts do not have any free safeties under contract. Antoine Bethea and Aaron Francisco are scheduled to hit free agency. Bob Sanders would have to switch to free safety, and Jamie Silva would be the strong safety were things to play out the way they are now.

Kick & Punt Returners – Although T.J. Rushing could leave as a free agent, the Colts should be expected to upgrade both kick and punt returners even if Rushing returns. Chad Simpson is the worst kick returner I have ever seen, and I am surprised that he was not released

Offensive Tackle – With Charlie Johnson scheduled to be a restricted free agent, the Colts starting left tackle could once again be Tony Ugoh. The Colts also will lose Daniel Federkeil and Michael Toudouze to restricted free agency. Even if the Colts re-sign Johnson, expect an offensive tackle to be picked in the draft.

Defensive Tackle – The Colts two starters, Antonio Johnson and Daniel Muir, are scheduled to become restricted free agents. This is less of a priority because the Colts have some solid depth behind them, Eric Foster and Fili Moala. The Colts could also consider upgrading Muir’s spot.

Cornerback – The Colts really showed why this was an issue on Super Bowl Sunday. Hayden, Lacey, and Powers are the only Colts scheduled to return next year. Marlin Jackson, Tim Jennings, and T.J. Rushing will all be restricted free agents. The Colts may decide to let Jackson, Jennings, and Rushing walk in free agency.

(AP/Gail Burton)

Last night one thing that really struck me about the way the Colts handled their crushing loss, was the way Matt Stover conducted himself. Stover headed into the Super Bowl as the oldest player in NFL history to play in the Super Bowl. After missing a 51 yard field goal on Sunday, Stover pointed to the sky, thanking god for his blessings.

The Matt Stover Story

After being drafted in the 12th round of the 1990 NFL Draft, it seemed that Matt Stoverwould be like most kickers who dream of NFL glory. After failing to catch on with the New York Giants as a rookie, Stover returned in 1991, and was signed by the Cleveland Browns.

Stoverstayed with the Browns until 2008, and since 1991, the Browns had relocated to Baltimore, and became the Baltimore Ravens. Although Stoverwas only elected to one Pro Bowl, his many years playing with the Browns/Ravens made him a not-so-instant fan favorite.

After the Ravens did not re-sign Stover following the 2008 season, Stoverwas out of work for the first month of the NFL season. Stover got his chance when Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri was sidelined, Stover got the call. Stover became the oldest player to play in the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl XLIV

With 5:33 left in the first quarter, Stover lined up and nailed a 38 yard field goal that gave the Colts a 3 point early lead over the Saints. As he trots off the field, Stover points towards the sky.

The Play

With 10:40 left in the game, the Colts hold a slim lead. Stover’s kick sails just left of the left post. As Stover jogs off of the field, he manages to bring his hands to the air.

T Daniel Federkeil (concussion), CB Aaron Francisco (ankle), WR Anthony Gonzalez (knee), CB Kelvin Hayden (knee), K Adam Vinatieri (right knee) are listed as out, and will not play.

Francisco did not play against new England, where he was expected to be used as the dime cornerback and the backup free safety. Jamie Silva replaced him in his duties in the dime. Silva is much slower than Francisco, and Dallas Clark would have two steps on Silva in a foot race.

If Federkeil can not play, Tony Ugoh will be activated and will serve as the Colts top reserve at left and right tackle.

Gonzalez has not played since week one, and will be replaced by Pierre Garcon, who scored a touchdown last week, but has also struggled with drops and injuries.

Hayden will be replaced by rookie Jacob Lacey, who started last week, and struggled while he was matched up against Randy Moss and Wes Welker.

Vinatieri will be replaced by Matt Stover. Stover, a former Raven, will have a homecomming game on Sunday.

S Antoine Bethea (foot), DT Eric Foster (back), DE Dwight Freeney (hip), WR Pierre Garcon (ankle), TE Gijon Robinson (concussion), QB Jim Sorgi (right shoulder) are listed as questionable.

Bethea injured his foot in last Sunday’s win, and I still wonder what is up with him wearing that black thing on his harm. If he can’t play. The Colts will not have any starters in their secondary.

WR Hank Baskett (illness) and LS Justin Snow (elbow) are listed as probable. Both will likely play. Baskett will see time if a receiver gets injured. Snow is the Colts long-time long-snapper.

The Ravens will be without RB Matt Lawrence (knee) and LB Terrell Suggs (knee). Todd Heap and Haloti Ngata are questionable, but from what I have read, both will play.

Who would have guessed that Antoine Bethea could do so much for the Colts when he was drafted by the team in 2006? Bethea has proven all of the scouts wrong, and is now giving back to the fans that he has already given so much too.

Bethea is teaming up with San Diego Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips and his organization tdshutdown.org. Bethea will donate money this season for the After-School All Stars.

All the After-School All Stars do is provide after school programs for kids that are fun and educational. After-School All Stars serve 78,000 youth annually through after school and summer programs in 13 cities across the country.

Bethea will donate an unknown sum of money to the After-School All Stars for every tackle he makes. Bethea has recorded 64 tackles this season.

And now for your veiwing pleasures, Shaun Phillips
