Rockets-Wizards: Luis Scola Gives Fans Reasons to Forget Carl Landry
  • By Jeff Shull
  • March 10th, 2010

With recent dominating performances from Luis Scola, he has fans quickly forgetting about having to give up Carl Landry for Kevin Martin. Scola is reminding everyone why he was the starter, and Landry was the 6th man.

Many thought it should be the other way around, but that clearly is not the case.

Scola's numbers have not been anywhere near as good as one thought they would be after Yao Ming got hurt, but that is because he has just been accepting his new role which didn't require him to the be No.

1 option.

With Aaron Brooks and Trevor Ariza emerging as huge scoring threats, the need for Scola to be dominant just hasn't been there.

He has been his usual self defensively and scrappy wise, but until now he...

Rockets-Hornets: Rockets Fall Short Late
  • By Jeff Shull
  • February 23rd, 2010

The Houston Rockets seem to have been placed on the "Lets see how much energy this team has" list.

Every time I look, it seems like they are on the back end of a back-to-back game.

After losing to the Pacers on Saturday night at Toyota Center, the Rockets went to New Orleans and lost to the CP3-less Hornets in an all-around disappointing affair.

The Jay-Z concert yesterday was more exciting than the Rockets have been so far after the All Star Break. The Rockets shot only 44 percent and 29 percent from three point land.

They have to make threes if they want any chance of winning road games, because they are tentative of late when they travel to other arenas.

This is a far cry from the beginning of...

Tracy McGrady Trade: Did the Rockets Win?
  • By Jeff Shull
  • February 23rd, 2010

Let me answer the question in the title right off the bat: absolutely the Rockets were winners in the trade.

From the Rockets' standpoint, they gave up Tracy McGrady, Carl Landry, and Joey Dorsey and got Kevin Martin, Hilton Armstrong, Jared Jeffries, and Jordan Hill.

Along with these players, the Rockets have the right to swap 2011 first rounders with the Knicks, and get the rights to the Knicks' 2012 first rounder, provided the 2011 pick is not the No.

1 overall, and the 2012 pick is not a top 5 selection. Martin and Jeffries will have an immediate impact on the team, as Martin makes up for the loss of a consistent scorer in Landry, and Jeffries brings a tall defensive presence the Rockets have lacked all year.

At 6'11",...

Yao Ming to Play Again...Just Not This Season
  • By Jeff Shull
  • February 23rd, 2010

Entering the 2009 NBA playoffs, the Houston Rockets were thought to be one of the teams who could challenge the Lakers for the Western Conference title. Yao Ming's game three foot injury put those thoughts to rest. The Houston Rockets were given the news back in June that perennial All Star center Yao Ming was going to miss all of the 2009-2010 season. At the time, some were skeptical that he would ever play again. In an attempt to disband all of those rumors that his injury will plague him beyond this season, Yao Ming vowed he is going to play again in the 2010-2011 season, and he will be his usual self. "I am able to play again," he said. He also added that he may have to alter his game to adjust...

2009-2010 Houston Rockets: Strengths
  • By Jeff Shull
  • February 23rd, 2010

The Houston Rockets will be without All Star center Yao Ming and, in all likelihood, Tracy McGrady for a significant amount of games. So what, you ask, are the realistic expectations for the 2009-2010 season? The following article breaks down the strengths  one can expect from the Rockets this upcoming season. Strength: Positions—Point Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward Point Guard: The point guard position is looking very solid for the Houston Rockets. They bring to the table two different players who compliment each other very well. Aaron Brooks is a shooting guard by heart, but he is in a point guard's body. His height presented some obvious problems at the shooting guard position, but the Rockets felt they could take his scoring and add the most important dimension of the PG position—running the offense. Brooks can shoot the...

2009-2010 Houston Rockets: Weaknesses
  • By Jeff Shull
  • February 23rd, 2010

In a previous article, I mapped out the strengths of the Houston Rockets. I will now do the same for the weaknesses, as well as provide a general prediction for the season's win-loss total. Weaknesses: Positions—Shooting Guard, Center Shooting Guard The shooting guard position may end up being neutral, as in neither a strength or a witness, because they will probably play both Trevor Ariza and Shane Battier at the SG and SF positions in certain match-ups. However, GM Daryl Morey seems to think they may end up playing both Lowry and Brooks in the back court at the same time. He recently tweeted this message: "We have to go best player and not be dogmatic about traditional position designations. Only $35MM on the floor to start year.” It goes without saying the Rockets will be anything but...
