Predicting the Astros’ 2010 Season
- By Philip Middleton
- February 3rd, 2010
The dust has settled from a full off-season, and the heat from the hot stove is being turned down to lukewarm.
That can only mean one thing, baseball season is just around the corner.
Pitchers and catchers are due to report in just 15 short days and Opening Day 2010 is in 62.
For Astros fans, this can bring on a mix of emotions.
Sure, we all love to see our 'stros take the field on Opening Day, but will it be another disappointing season?
The Astros made a number of moves this off-season.
This was partly unexpected due to Astros' owner Drayton McLane reducing the payroll.
However, the starting lineup looks to be competitive in the 2010 season.
Here's how I see it:
Bourn CF
Matsui 2B
Berkman 1B
Lee LF
Pence RF
Feliz 3B
Quintero C
Manzella...
Feliz Signed to Play Hot Corner for Astros
- By Philip Middleton
- December 11th, 2009
After playing in the last two World Series and winning one, Pedro Feliz has signed a one year $4.5 million contract to play third base in Houston.
The move comes on the last day of this years Winter Meetings in Indianapolis.
Feliz, 34, hit .266/12/82 for the Philadelphia Phillies last year in 158 games.
His durability and defense will be key for the left side of the Astros' infield, which seemed awfully shaky heading into the off season.
The Astros were unable to make any headway in resigning Miguel Tejada, as he would have played third base if he came back for the 2010 season.
Geoff Blum has already been resigned, and will serve in what General Manager Ed Wade calls a "super-utility" role.
The Astros seem content with starting the...
Astros Busy at Winter Meetings
- By Philip Middleton
- December 10th, 2009
It has been a wild couple of days in Major League Baseball; from trades to arbitration, to free agent signings and the Rule 5 Draft, there is much to cover.
It seemed as though the Astros were going to bust at the Winter meetings, having been declined on their arbitration offer by Jose Valverde and losing LaTroy Hawkins to the Brewers.
Hawkins signed with the Brewers on Wednesday, mostly because the Astros would not offer a multi-year deal.
Valverde has yet to sign, and the possibility of him resigning with the Astros now is highly unlikely.
After losing their own players, the Astros quickly turned their attention to other available arms on the market.
I personally thought the Astros did not have the money or players in their system available to pull...

Miggy Tejada Supports Bazardo As He Outpitches Hamels
- By Philip Middleton
- December 10th, 2009
Yorman Bazardo outpitched Cole Hamels. I can't believe I am writing that, but it is true. So I am gonna say it again: Yorman Bazardo outpitched Cole Hamels. Yorman threw 5.2 innings, gave up only TWO hits - a leadoff single to Rollins (which led to a run) and a double to Victorino which SHOULD have been an out, but it bounced off the first base bag and took a bad hop and Berkman couldn't get it (and it was a BAD night for Berkman all around, except for the walks...) And that odd hop eventually led to a run because Utley grounded out and Victorino went to third and then, with Howard at bat, Victorino, by dancing down the baseline, enticed Bazardo into a balk and there was his second run....
