Broncos Chargers Football

…And so it begins anew…

The AFC West hated rival San Diego Chargers (6-3) come into Invesco Field tomorrow to try to exact revenge upon the Denver Broncos (6-3) . Denver is in a slump while San Diego is doing exactly what Denver should be doing in the month of November.

Denver always plays better against their own divisional opponents. Not including last years beating at the hands of the Bolts on the final game of the season.

The Chargers are hoping to see history repeat itself. Take control of the division.

I say history is grossly overrated. I say easier said then done. Here’s why….

Kyle Orton or Chris Simms -vs- Phillip Rivers:

Kyle has always gotten his support from me and will continue to get my support. However, he has thrown some picks  (I also blame the O line for getting penalties and putting him in 3rd and long situations) and Phillip Rivers is starting to get into his rhythm.

If Chris Simms plays, I clearly would have to once again say Rivers has a huge edge. Until Denver can get their running game back on track and earn the respect from other teams, the Denver QB’s, whether it be Orton or Simms, will continue to struggle. The O line needs to play error free football and pick up the blitzes. Keep Merriman out of the equation.

These are all just “if”’s” and only “if’’s.”

Advantage: Rivers

Broncos O-line -vs- Chargers front 7

The key to this is for Denver to keep Merriman and Shaun Phillips in check and not allow them to make the big play.

Last week against the Eagles, the Chargers D allowed 462 yards but also held the Eagles to field goals, 3 times in the red zone. They also prevented the Giants, the week before, from scoring  a touchdown, late in the 4th quarter. The front 7 put the heat on when their back is against the wall.

On another side of that coin, however, is the fact that they DO give up a lot of yardage. Their fortune of luck of staying ahead or stopping a team from scoring, late in the game, will not always bail them out.

This is a help to the Broncos. When they click, they have a very explosive offense and it all starts with the front 4. I think they can do better. Get back into form. The Chargers never started out strong with their D this year. They have always given up points and yardage. They will give some up again tomorrow.

Advantage: Broncos

Chargers O-line -vs- Broncos front 7:

The front line of Denver is still playing well, although they need to watch giving up the run on the outside, which the Redskins did to over and over and over again and which you know the Chargers saw and will likely try to exploit.

Denver will need to watch LT and Sproles closely. The running game is starting to click for the Bolts and Sproles could be dangerous on the outside if he breaks free. Look for Peterson to make some “off tackle” plays. Doom will probably demand a double team. That means that Davis can get free or you can run a safety blitz and have the Wolverine get in a rhythm and start “rollin” on a Rivers.

Advantage: Broncos

Broncos 2ndary -vs- Chargers 2ndary:

Denver’s 2ndary has struggled some as of late, mainly against Champ Bailey. Teams like the Steelers and the Redskins have schooled him and I think he is too good to have that happen a 3rd time. He always has good games against the Chargers and I expect that to continue.

Chargers, as mentioned before, are giving up a lot of yards and much of it is through the air. They will try to put the pressure up front to allow their 2ndary to make some plays.

Problem with that equation goes by the name of Eddie Royal/ Royal schooled the Bolts 1st game, so you can expect the Chargers to double team him.

Look for Marshall and Gaffney to play big. San Diego 2ndary will get schooled tomorrow.

Advantage: Broncos

Broncos running backs -vs- Chargers running backs:

Denver started out strong at the beginning of the year but fell off the map, as of  late. Moreno had a good game  last week verses the Skins 97 yards) but Denver still lost.

Chargers LT is getting stronger every game and Sproles has a history of burning the Broncos. They are hitting their stride at the right time of the season and Denver’s backs are still out of sync.

Advantage: Chargers

B roncos Special Teams -vs- Chargers ST

Does Denver have a ST? News to me. Get rid of that clown of an excuse punter, Berger and I might give Denver a chance. They won’t and I don’t so…

Advantage: Chargers

So there you have it. I still like Denver in an extremely close game. They are playing for pride and I believe they will get it and redeem themselves.

Denver 27

Bolts 20

well dave, it is almost to late for this post, but you made it.
I think you should have said something about Simms and him going long more than BIG O but that is IMHO. I also think the SECONDARY should be rated EVEN. You say a close game 20-27. if we win by 7 i would be suprised, the game will be within 4, some where around 17-20.
ps tell your dad hi from everyone on here and have a hapy Thanksgiving.
    :)

San Diego is on a roll and Denver is on a slide. When push come’s to shove who will win? Slide Slide!! UM I think SD.

Whoever that was who left the 1st post, you left nothing but a link to a page to download a codec for an unknown article for an unverified publisher. You could be sending us a malicious virus for all we know? I took it upon myself to delete it. You need to make people more aware of who you are before I will allow a post like that. I just had my computer fixed because of viruses and such. I need clarification. You ask people to download something totally unknown? Not on my watch.
Texark, sorry for the late post but my 78 year old father fell a few days ago. He’s going to be okay but is very sore, so my duties have temporarily increased. I wanted to get it out on Friday but was way too busy.
As for the 2ndary, I give the edge to Denver. SD is giving up a lot more yatdage in the air then Denver is. I don’t call them even because one is on the slide and the other isn’t.
David, nope, as a die-hard Broncos fan, I refuse to concead the game to SD. We beat them once already and I won’t throw Denver under the bus. I’m a lottle worried, but I won’t just hand SD a W.

    DD:
I agree with you on the Orton/Simms question marks. Orton if he starts needs both ankles to be good to throw the ball short or long. Has to be able to set his feet. If Simms goes I think he will be ready but then again he is a lefty and chargers could scheme to his blind side. The Oline needs to step it up and play better both running and pass protection to give us a chance to keep this game under control! Read that MB says he is in love with Simms arm on the DP site. Let’s hope he catches a few long balls. I also would agree that if Rivers thinks Champ is faltering and can be had is a mistake. Champ could take one all the way back in this game. He has done it before. So in closing we have two intangibles working for us in that we are HOME and the Broncos should be up for AFC show down. And need to prove 6-0 was no fluke and show the pride in stopping a 3 game loosing skid. My gut tells me a close game and I feel my emotions are in high gear. The dogs better hide and the phones will be turned off.

ESPN Just anounced Simms is starting. And a tid bit Shanny is under Bills radar for Head Coach.

  6. champ24 says:

Here’s to hoping Simms can finally get the offense to hit on all cylinders. I know you are a huge Orton backer, but no offense to you, he has not exactly lit it up. They have so much more potential than they have produced so far this year.

  7. Dynamicdave says:

Champ, Orton had a 134% passer rating before he got injured last week. I’m not sure what you’re asking of him? Going downfield? That’s McD’s call, not Orton’s.Also, it’s 2nd qrtr and Orton is warming up. Simms is ineffetive and the Oline is getting penalties again. The team seems to be getting worst each game. This is painful to watch. But I was correct about Simms so I won’t have to retract my assesment of him. I was spot on about him. It is now 13-0 San Diego. I will put out another article tonight and it will not be kind. It will be a “wake up” article to the Broncos.

  8. champ24 says:

You’re right Dave. Orton is not the problem, the play calling is. Orton has looked good again today and is our only hope. This is getting damn frustrating.

  9. Henry Rodger says:

So what can I say but SUCK! Broncos are going to be 6-10 this season….What happened? All of us fans who show up and pay good money to see at least an effort from denver would be nice…… My friends and I are about to turn in or season tickets……….We are all tired of hearing the whining of the players we are hurt and we need to regroup……Well regroup already put a fire under there butts!!!!!!!!!!! Stop being pussys……6-10,6-10 think of that! Fools!

  10. Pomacat says:

Game Over!!!!!!!!!!! I hope for a better try next week.

  11. Dynamicdave says:

Henry, a true fan doesn’t even consider selling his tickets, even if spoken out of anger. Feel fortunate that you can even go to a game. I live in Vegas and take care of my elderly father. I will not be seeing a Broncos game, let alone, the state of Colorado in the near future. Be upset but don’t talk like that. Win or lose, at least you got to see the game. You payed good money for your tickets, no doubt, but that never came with a condition that they will win. The only guarantee in life is death and taxes.
Champ, the problem I see is penalties and turnovers. Waaaaay too many. It’s killing their drives. This is caused by a team that is as new as Denver is. Too many “mental mistakes. They are only playing 35 minutes of any one game. They keep losing focus. Hey, McD was letting Kyle air it out and he almost got a TD, but for Moreno fumbling. These are those “mental errors” that I spoke of. Denver is a young team. Win or lose, I will support them and “IF” I had tickets, I would be there, screaming and shouting my support. If I threatened to sell them, I might as well become a Raiders fan and get used to whinng a lot, ha, ha.

    Raiders who?
