Broncos Skinned Alive, San Diego Awaits

Broncos Redskins Football                                                                                                                                                            I have finally come out of mourning…

I will now try to write an objective look at the horrendous showing that Denver gave their fans and to the delight of the Washington Redskins, gave their fans as well.

Denver (6-3) came into Washington (3-6) to try to halt a two game losing streak.

Didn’t happen.

Denver lost to the Redskins 27-17.

Denver lost much more then that, though. They lost their starting quarterback, Kyle Orton, to an ankle injury.

Enter Chris Simms.

I’m sorry, but from that point on, Denver should have just stayed at home and mailed the score in. Chris Simms ended the game with 3 completions out of 13 attempts for a total of 13 yards. He threw an interception and had a 1 yard average and a 7.5% passer rating. Are you kidding me?

I recall many fans who were on the blogs screaming and whining for Simms to start the season over Kyle, before a down was played. Armchair quarterbacks. Stay in your recliner. Think of new ridiculous ideas to present to us. Just warn us 1st, as the idea may well give me a seizure and just really ruin my day.

I stated from day one that Kyle was better. Before his injury, he was 11-18 for 193 yards which is a 10.7 yard average, 2 touchdowns and NO INTERCEPTIONS!

Yes, Kyle’s game was far from perfect, but he gives me some hope that we can still win the game, where as, Simms gives me hope that we can just end the game before anymore shame is bestowed upon our team.

Kyle threw the ball well, but then made some poor throws (Eddie Royal (2 for 21 yards) downfield, overthrown). He and Marshall (5 for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns) were in sync for much of the game, but began to struggle later as Washington’s defense made adjustments, something that Denver has failed to do in the last 3 games.

Moreno ran for 97 yards on 18 carries. Not bad for the rookie but obviously not good enough.

The Denver defense played uncharacteristic-like in this game. Made some bad decisions and got schooled, late in the game.

Special teams was a joke. To allow a touchdown on a fake field goal? Once again, are you kidding me?

Which brings me to another question mark… Where is Peyton Hillis? I knew he had a death in the family a week ago, but why was he inactive this week? Did they think he wasn’t up to speed with the gameplan against the Redskins? Well, newsflash, neither was the rest of the team!

We all knew that early in the season, Hillis was in McD’s doghouse for some penalties, fumbles and losing his cool on the field. Well, how long are you going to punish a talent like Peyton, at the expense of your team and the fans? We need his hard hitting and explosiveness. He brings attitude to the offense, same way that Dawkins brings the energy to the defense. Get him on the field Josh! Enough already!

Yes, McD had Kyle attempt to go downfield. It was a hit and miss. That’s what happens when you don’t use those type of plays very often. Rust, inaccurate timing and 4th downs.

I never use the refs as an excuse for a win or a loss. So I will just say this, the refs made many poor calls in that game. When Eddie Royal was hit on the special teams play, the Redskin led with his helmet. No call. Same thing happened to Marshall. Again no call. The catch inbounds that was ruled OOB? Again, bad call. These killed drives. The refs should be ashamed of their performance that day.

That’s all I’ll say on that matter.

Now we come to the next opponent, the San Diego Chargers.

They are already talking smack and thinking they will come into Mile High and punish us. They just may well do that. Simms at the helm needs to get it going. Earn those millions you’re making, for Gods sake. You looked like Ryan Leaf out there against the Skins.

Get Buckhalter more involved. He was productive early in the season then McD stopped using him? Time to get back to what was working. Yes, the tight ends are used little more then blocking bookends. Get them more involved.

If Denver loses against San Diego, a team we already stuck it to, once this season, then Denver doesn’t deserve to win this division. It would save us the embarrassment of getting smoked in the playoffs.

Beat San Diego and get back on track. Get some of that swagger back. Some of that confidence back. Some of your pride back, which you left on the field in DC. Time to put up or shut up.

Time to make those miracles happen.

Tell us how you really feel! LOL

I echo your thoughts on everything. Very well said. As much as I believe we would’ve won this past game had Orton not got injured, we should’ve won regardless of who our QB is. As a 2nd string, Simms should play like a reliable back up. His stats show otherwise. Still pretty thankful I missed this game… never thought I’d say that but I was already steamed about seeing our 2 losses, this would’ve sent over the cliff.

We have to win this next game, no excuses. Our offense needs to finish their drives, preferrably with a TD so our D won’t get so burned out. Our D can’t play these games by themselves like this… reason why I stress over and over this is a TEAM sport. Our offense needs to do their jobs just as much as our D. Plain and simple. ST needs to get their act back together as well. This season is slowly turning into a mess… now is the time to fix it before it gets real ugly. SD is looking for revenge… don’t let them. The Broncos need to make a strong finish to this season and it starts with taking out SD, again.

Interesting article my friend. San Diego is playing better now then the first time around. I hope Denver can pull it off but with Simms I expect it to be a long day for Denver.

Hi gang. Yes, it could be a very long day for Demver. I just don’t see Simms improving that greatly as to be able to take it to a very good San Diego defense. But then again, as I said in my article, they need to make those miracles happen.

Sorry for missing out on posting on your last Blogs. Been posting some on the DB site. Anyway I enjoyed reading this post and agree with you on Hillis! But you know me I must give my color commentary. I disagree on one statement you made my friend:

“If Denver loses against San Diego, a team we already stuck it to, once this season, then Denver doesn’t deserve to win this division. It would save us the embarrassment of getting smoked in the playoffs”

I see were you are coming from but the doesn’t deserve to win thing is a bit extreme. We have been off the mark on the last 3 games! And we might not win the division. But I will always take a playoff spot smoked or not! My two cents.

To lose 4 games in a row and the 4th being against a team that is smack talking about us and telling the world they will take us out at Invesco, tells me the team has lost it’s heart & direction. They are bordering on that anyways. I’m nor saying that I wouldn’t like to see them make the playoffs, I’m saying I don’t think they deserve to go if they drop the 4th game in a row. That is not a team playing for the playoffs. That’s a team that has lost it’s heart and has no business in the playoffs. They may or may not have Kyle at QB this weekend. Game-time decision. I don’t like what I saw in Simms. Rusty or not, he looked terrible and the O-line was playing with no intensity. The D was tired and giving up. This is not a team that will do anything in the playoffs except get embarrassed. By beating San Diego, it shows me that they have the belief in themselves that they can still win. I just don’t think Simms can get it done. If Kyle doesn’t play, we are in deep trouble. Brandstater isn’t ready yet. Denver needs to have a teammate only meeting and look at themselves in the mirror and see what’s there. Right now it’s intensity and focus. Stupid penalties at just the wrong time. They still have some tough games ahead of them and I don’t see the fire anymore. I see players dreading the next game and the game after that and the game after and so on.

Simms didn’t lose the game Dave. Coming in cold off the bench and not getting any snaps all year…what do you expect? Simms will be ready this time and show that he is significantly better than Orton.

  7. texark-fan says:

super scott i hope you are right about Simms, like DD said a lot is riding on this game.
well here i sit woundering KO-Simms? Hillis or no running game?Simms is supose to have a better long ball this could be a good thing but we will see.
as for HILLIS inactive is not the way to go. he proved last year that he could get the hard yards. when up against a tuff D like steelers and ravens you think he would have played. so i say let him go and get someone that Mac will play (kc needs RB) we need to pound the ball this week. take out KM and Bucky and let them return kicks and put in LARSEN AND HILLIS in the backfield. i would truely love to see that game.
we can win the SD game but only with a new and diff type of off. put in something, anything but add a little spice to the play calling. and i am still all for MAC. but he is making me uneasy.

  8. I really dig the post, man. I am disgusted by the loss to the Redskins and am a little on the fearful season about where the Broncos are headed. I do believe that they must turn it around this week against San Diego. They looked like a defeated and dejected team that whole second half this past Sunday. One more loss will do them in, in m own opinion.

I am going to post a link to your post on my blog. Keep it up.

Lets hope some of our team leaders do step in and make a statment to get this team back on track!
