Mark Sheldon tweets that the Reds have signed Ramon Hernandez. Terms are a $3 million deal for 2010 and an option for 2011 at $3.25 million that vests if he plays 120 games. Hernandez played 120 games last year.
As long as Hernandez and Hanigan split time, this will work out fine, because the two are complementary. If Hernandez gets close to vesting, he will have played too much. Neither is durable enough to put up a 120 or 130 game season.
The only bad news is, this takes up a spot on the 40-man, exposing another young player to the Rule 5 draft.
