The Cincinnati Bengals decided last week to sign wide receiver Antonio Bryant. This was after talks about possibly bringing Terrell Owens or Brandon Marshall to Cincinnati.

It would appear that the Bengals would not make any more moves for another wide receiver until the NFL Draft, but Cincy quarterback Carson Palmer must feel a little differently.

Apparently Carson Palmer thinks that the Bengals should continue trying to get Terrell Owens into the Bengals locker room and help this team become the dominant passing attack in the league.

Would the Bengals dare to go out and get two wide receivers out of free agency, both of which have questionable character issues?

I don’t think it would hurt the Bengals but they might have to make a cut in their current wide receiver core and in my opinion one of the ones to go should be Jerome Simpson the former second round pick.

Carson Palmer has had a huge influence on who the Bengals bring into the locker room bringing in Andre Smith from the draft last season and Laverneous Coles. However how did that work out for the Bengals last season?

Andre Smith looked like the early round bust of the season and Coles was quickly out the door at the beginning of the free agency season.

You already took the chance on what you got already; I still don’t know how Terrell Owens would fit into with Cincinnati.

If the Bengals make this move to grab Owens and I would not be mad, but I think they need to work on resigning Bobbie Williams instead because what good is another wide receiver if your quarterback isn’t protected long enough to throw it.

It depends on how much the players opinion matters to management because first it was Chad Ochocinco lobbying for Owens and now its the leader of the team Carson Palmer.

Regardless of what the Bengals have seen in the workouts of Bryant I’m not sure I would have made this deal. The only incentive is you didn’t have to waste a first round pick and you have a receiver seven years younger than Terrell Owens.

It was Wednesday that Antonio Bryant’s Agent stated that his client has a verbal agreement to wear the Bengals stripes this season for Cincinnati. He has supposedly signed a four year $28 million with the team.

Out of all the free agents he was me least likely pick to become a Bengal, but I guess they had a different idea.

Antonio Bryant is a player that hasn’t really had the right opportunity to shine where he was at in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers have been struggling to find a quarterback and had rookie Josh Freeman under center this season.

In 2008 Bryant caught 83 passes for 1,248 yards and eight touchdowns, but as an encore performance this season he had 39 catches for 600 yards and four touchdown catches less than half the production.

He had knee problems this season and it has slowed down his production tremendously so this is a stretch for the Bengals to say the least.

The last receiver to have knee problems was former first round pick Peter Warrick and he was let go and we haven’t heard from him since.

This is not an injury to mess around with and especially with a 29 year old receiver. This is a huge gamble and something the Bengals are best at, and hopefully they used better judgment.

When you look at the other receivers on the list of options Terrell Owens was probably the most harmless pick. An aging wide receiver wanting to be on a contending team lining up on the opposite side of Chad Ochocinco, you can’t match up with that.

Plus Ochocinco was lobbying for this deal to happen so much, although he’s not a manger, he’s still a guy you don’t want running his mouth about the issue.

We have all seen what Owens can do and it speaks for itself. He had 55 catches and 829 yards with five touchdowns with a team that had a young undeveloped quarterback and former Bengals Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The other player on the list was Brandon Marshall who had a first round tender on him, but he is well worth a third round pick, and I’m sure the Bengals could have made a deal to where they could have got a decent pick in the draft.

Marshall would have been a key point to the offense and is more dynamic than Owens is now and Bryant will be not to mention injury free.

Regardless of what the Bengals have seen in the workouts of Bryant I’m not sure I would have made this deal. The only incentive is you didn’t have to waste a first round pick and you have a receiver seven years younger than Terrell Owens.

In the quest for a new receiver the Bengals have looked at all options for a player that will help their team succeed. After an unsuccessful attempt with Laveranues Coles they terminated his contract this past Friday and will now look for a person to fill the void.

Coles made the comment that he “didn’t fit the offense” and “Carson wasn’t comfortable throwing to him.” One thing was for certain there was no production with him and in my opinion they should have never rid themselves of TJ Houshmandzadeh.

Houshmandzadeh was a key part of this offensive passing attack being so effective and his loss put a huge damper on the team. He was Palmer’s go to guy when we needed a first down and was such a physical presence on a once soft team.

Now it’s a new season and the Bengals can’t live in the past so they need to find the right receiver in free agency as well as the draft.

Terrell Owens has been a candidate for the team, but he is getting older and is not as affective as he once was. This is the more likely of the players in free agency to sign with the Bengals although the Bengals have contacted more.

One player the Bengals have recently been in talks with has been Brandon Marshall of the Denver Broncos.

In the past three years Marshall has some of the best statistics at the receiver position and has been affective for a team that he didn’t want to be on early on in the year.

If Brandon Marshall came to Cincinnati he would probably take over Chris Henry’s number and ironically I believe that Marshall is what Henry could have been without the off the field issues.

The Broncos have placed a first round tender on Marshall meaning that who ever wants him needs to be able to give a first round pick or more to the team in return, and the Bengals are currently contemplating it.

I don’t think this deal will be made unless Denver gives way a little bit because the Bengals can’t afford to give away their first round pick.

With an addition of Marshall and perhaps Mardy Gilyard for the University of Cincinnati this receiving core will have been built back up to its original potential.

If this season is like last and an air it out team is going to win you the Super Bowl then the Bengals need to be able to have big play threats and a mix of Chad Ochocinco and Brandon Marshall is enough to make a quarterback like Carson Palmer look like the best in the league.

Seattle is currently looking to grab Marshall so if the Bengals want to get a deal done they need to work fast because we don’t need to lose two star players to the Seahawks.

As a Bengals fan I could careless if he wins or not as long as he doesn’t get injured and it doesn’t affect him as a player.

ABC announced who will appear on the next season of Dancing with the Stars and it includes an Olympic Star, an ESPN reporter, and none other than Chad Ochocinco.

This does not come as a shock to me I was actually surprised it took the show this long to get Chad on there.

Ochocinco always runs his mouth with the famous “anything you can do, I can do better” wanting to race a horse, swim against Michael Phelps, and box Mike Tyson.

This puts Chad in the spotlight to see if he can do more than talk trash and have controversial end zone celebrations.

This will be interesting to see, but I doubt that Cincy’s star receiver will last very long since this show is a popularity contest and there are a lot of people that will want to 86 85.

Chad has made it a point in saying that he will not let this affect his football career and he will not miss any mandatory practices if he does indeed make it to the finals in May.

This could be a stunt to show people that Chad is not a joke and that he is not only what you see on the football field talking trash. There’s more to him than a lot of people think so who knows what kind of pitch they will try to make.

As a Bengals fan I could careless if he wins or not as long as he doesn’t get injured and it doesn’t affect him as a player.

We can only hope that whoever his partner is doesn’t murder him within the first week of the show.

On Sunday, August 8 the Bengals will play the Dallas Cowboys in Canton, Ohio for the Hall of Fame Game.

It’s been 22 years since the Bengals have played in the opening preseason. In the game they beat the L.A. Rams 14-7 and they went on to win the AFC Championship losing in the Super Bowl to the San Francisco.

This will be the first Sunday Night Football of the 2010 season. After last season being AFC vs. AFC this year will return to its original format of an NFC team vs. an AFC team.

Although the game will be held in Canton, Ohio the Bengals will not be the focus of the game with so many Hall of Fame Players having played for the Cowboys.

Saturday, August 7 Emitt Smith will be inducted into the Hall of Fame along with Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Dick LeBeau, Floyd Little, John Randle and, of course, Jerry Rice.

Preseason games are never the most exciting but with this game comes the official start to the NFL season so it should be exciting to watch and an honor for the Bengals to participate in.

It’s no doubt by the end of the Bengals 10-6 season this year that you could clearly see the flaws in the team.

There were the minor things in the defense and then the big lack in a passing game to where a rookie Mark Sanchez out played Cincy veteran Carson Palmer.

It was not all Palmer’s fault though, it was lack in receiving and Palmer being unable to find a rhythm with his receivers in the end that killed them.

There are major talks about the Bengals drafting a wide receiver or multiple in the draft, but Head Coach Marvin Lewis doesn’t seem to think he needs too many more receivers.

He seems to think that the players on his team need to improve their own game so they don’t have to waste a potential draft choice on a position that can be fixed with effort.

The main player mentioned was 2008 second round pick Jerome Simpson. The Bengals drafted Simpson in the hopes he would be the next “Chad Ochocinco” of the team.

How has this worked out for the Bengals? Not good at all it appears that this player has bust written all over him, even though no one really expected him to do anything in the first place besides of course the Bengals.

When Marvin was questioned about Simpson here’s what he had to say. “We need to have a great offseason in the development of Jerome,” Lewis told the team’s official website. “We have to get Jerome Simpson ready. We have to do a great job of using his skill and athleticism that can help us consistently.”

“The third year is the charm for some guys,” Lewis continued. “For some guys it takes a lot longer to figure it out once that ball is snapped. Jerome has made great progress, let’s hope the light comes on and all systems are go.”

The player out of Coastal Carolina has only dressed for eight games in his two seasons with the team and has one catch for a mere two yards.

I’m not sure that I can agree with Lewis. I know he’s big on believing in people and giving second chances, but you can’t let the same thing happen as last season.

If the Bengals don’t draft or sign a high quality receiver then they better be gearing up their defense to stop any and every team because they will not win games without a secure passing attack.

Last season they signed Laveranues Coles and expected a lot with him being the highest paid player on the team currently but he hasn’t produced.

Again Lewis looked at the positive and called him a good leader and stable for the locker room, but if you pay a player that much he has to do more than that.

The Bengals no doubt need some more effort from the current group of players but they need to get some fresh new players who are ready to come in and start right away. Simpson obviously hasn’t been taking it seriously if we haven’t heard from him all season and the third string receiver Andre Caldwell has more than production Coles and Simpson.

Caldwell is developing just fine and I think he will be a solid third receiver for the team, but they need a second and a future first for when Ochocinco goes packing.

I don’t think the team will have the same problems as last season, but they don’t want to gamble it. Get the players you need and you won’t need to worry about it.

Everyone deserves a second chance, the Bengals need to make sure they’re giving them to the right people.

The Bengals have been notorious for grabbing people with past character issues. Until this season it has backfired on them, and coach Marvin Lewis seems to think it’s a winning formula for his team.

The Bengals resigned Chris Henry after all of his troubles off the field, even though he never reached his full potential he was still a big part of the team.

Cedric Benson was let go by the Bears after some off the field issues and now is one of the best running backs in the league. He would have been up there in yards if not for the injury he sustained.

Larry Johnson was once considered the best running back in the league, but the team was not good enough to help with his talent and Johnson made comments about the team that got him suspended and kicked out of Kansas City. He’s now a Bengal and had a key game in the middle of the season to help them win.

Bernard Scott the rookie has had a monster season for the Bengals as far as special teams, and like Larry Johnson has a key game for the team. He was arrested six times previous to his career in Cincinnati.

Andre Smith was the Bengals first round pick, yet he showed up to his big job interview late, out of shape, and left without saying goodbye. Yet the Bengals still grabbed him, even though he hasn’t proven anything yet.

Tank Johnson was released from the NFC Champion Bears team after having automatic weapons and he stepped in when Domato Peko was out with injury.

Leon Hall, Jonathan Joseph, and Frostee Rucker all were arrested while wearing a Bengals uniform and are current leaders of the defense.

Rey Maualuga joined this list less than a month ago with a DUI and escorting minors around at night.

The Bengals even tried to grab Michael Vick before Philadelphia signed him last offseason, and I think that worked for the best.

If this works then Marvin Lewis is a genius for finding such talent at a bargain, but if it blows up in his face then it leaves bad publicity on the city.

Right now he is playing with fire working out Pacman Jones and Signing Matt Jones who both didn’t play last season.

I won’t comment on it until I see what they can do, but this is a gamble at the least. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bengals signed Terrell Owens or Brandon Marshall and I’d expect them to be in the mix when Plaxico Burress gets out of prison.

Everyone deserves a second chance, the Bengals need to make sure they’re giving them to the right people.

Why Boomer Esiason Needs to Shut His Mouth

Esiason needs to not let his personal opinion not get in the way of his job as an analyst. Even if Ochocinco is all for himself he’s still a key part of this team and the Bengals should not let him go.

Boomer Esiason is one of the Bengals highlighted players of the franchise. He led the Bengals to many playoffs and one Super Bowl, in which they lost.

His opinion about the Bengals should be widely respected, but I just wish he would shut his mouth.

It’s no secret that Esiason is no fan of Chad Ochocinco. He scrutinizes everything he’s done and continues to run his mouth about the Bengals star receiver.

During the Super Bowl Boomer made the statement that he doesn’t like Chad because he’s “for himself not the team.”

He even compared Ochocinco to Terrell Owens saying that the Bengals should rid themselves of the problem.

Esiason has to be blind to think that the Bengals should get rid of Ochocinco. What was the biggest problem with the Bengals this season? It was the fact that they didn’t have a secure passing game and Ochocinco was their only receiver.

To get rid of Ochocinco trusting others to grow into their roles without security would be the dumbest move the team could make and a huge step back.

If anything the Bengals need to add a receiver to compliment Ochocinco because with all the trouble they went through to keep him it would be pointless to get rid of him now.

He knows he’s on a team that’s close to making the Super Bowl and he will behave as long as the Bengals keep winning. Does anyone blame him?

Who wants to work hard every offseason and train in the hot summer days just to keep losing and not make the playoffs?

Esiason needs to not let his personal opinion not get in the way of his job as an analyst. Even if Ochocinco is all for himself he’s still a key part of this team and the Bengals should not let him go.

The fact of the matter is that this is Palmer's team and if he don't want him there then Owens will not be in Cincy. It doesn't matter how much Ochocinco runs his mouth.

There has been some hype about Chad Ochocinco coming out and pulling for the Bengals to pick up Terrell Owens when he becomes available this coming season.

The question is would it really work?

When you look at Owens, he has never been a problem on the field but its off the field where he becomes an issue.

He has ruined locker rooms and driven coaches insane, but is it safe enough to sign him for a year to see what would happen.

For some strange reason I seen the Bengals making this deal last season, but the Bills got him before the Bengals did and I was happy to hear so.

He has had a lack of production this season with an inconsistent quarterback position in Buffalo, but he also had plenty of drops.

The Bengals have had success with outcasted players this season, so maybe if this would happen Marvin Lewis could make it work.

Chad Ochocinco and Terell Owens on the same team would be almost unreal, but you add that with a Mardy Gilyard or some other talent you draft and Bingo!!! the Bengals would finally have a passing game.

Carson Palmer needs more weapons because he can’t trust the men he has on the field. Getting T.O as a decoy if anything would be a better move than keeping Laverneous Coles.

The fact of the matter is that this is Palmer’s team and if he don’t want him there then Owens will not be in Cincy. It doesn’t matter how much Ochocinco runs his mouth.

After the Bengals lost to the Steelers in the playoffs four seasons ago there was a series of arrests following their 11-5 season.

Rey Maualuga isn’t getting this offseason started right as he was pulled over and arrested at 3:11 a.m. for drunk driving.

The Bengals have not had a problem like this in a while and they were finally getting past the point of being talked about for off the field problems they can’t let history repeat itself.

Marvin Lewis needs to let his team know that they can’t let the off the field problems return to this team, because that is the only reason they haven’t been to the playoffs in the last four seasons.

Rey Maualuga has reminded me of 2005 second pick Odell Thurman, but he don’t need to head in the same direction Thurman did which landed him out the door of the NFL.

The team wants to be talked about for playing great football not for being a whole bunch of drunk driving morons that don’t want to spend money for a cab.

Not one player remains that have been arrested on the team accept Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall and if Maualuga don’t watch it he’ll be out the door as well.
