Should the Chicago Bears Target Joey Galloway?

New England Patriots v New York Jets

Just before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, the New England Patriots made news by releasing veteran wide receiver Joey Galloway. Galloway never established a niche in the talented New England offense, and became expendable with Wes Welker getting healthy.

With all the talk recently about the possibility that the Chicago Bears might target a veteran receiver like Terrell Owens in a trade, would adding a speedy Galloway make sense for the Bears at this point?

The Bears have an emerging, talented group of young receivers that are producing well beyond expectations so far this year. Devin Hester has developed into a serviceable, if not dangerous, threat as a legitimate receiver, while Earl Bennett and rookie Johnny Knox are both learning on the fly while contributing to the Bears offense.

I would bring in Galloway because he wouldn’t be terribly expensive as an 11-week rental, but would serve as a soid veteran presence in the locker room. The Bears don’t have anyone on their roster that can show these young receivers what it takes off the field to succeed on the turf on Sundays. Running good routes and being fast is one thing, being a professional is something else.

Galloway has been in the league long enough that he can not only bring something to the table for the Bears on the field, but as a leader for a young receiver group it would be worth the cost.

My vote is yes, the Bears should go after Joey Galloway.
