Bears ‘Off’ Season Drags Into the Off-Season

And so it begins Bears fans. The time of the year when we are all left waiting to see what the Chicago Bears organization does to improve a team   that has missed the playoffs the last three seasons. The Chicago Bears off-season started early January again. Most of us were hoping for a big change to the coaching staff and prayed for the McCaskey family to "clean house." Well that didn't happen entirely. As expected, Ron Turner and the entire offensive staff were let go. Lovie Smith relieved himself of his defensive coordinator duties so he could focus on being the head coach. What happened next? It’s been like watching paint dry on wood. Mike Tice, former Minnesota Vikings Head Coach and tight ends/ assistant HC of the Jacksonville Jaguars, was hired as the new Offensive Line coach.  This...

Chicago Bears Draft: Round 4 & 5
  • By kanderson1485
  • February 28th, 2010

Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo, has always emphasized his ability to build teams through the NFL Draft. We have seen the results. With no first or second round picks this year, the Bears are in a tough spot. They need play makers and have to find a sleeper or two in the late rounds. With the Bears having only 4 draft picks in this year’s draft, I would like to go over their potential 3rd and 4th round picks. NFL Draft: (Bears have no 1st or 2nd round picks due to the Jay Cutler and Gaines Adams trade) Round 3:  #75 Selection:  Mike Johnson, OG, Alabama Johnson isn’t very athletic and could be considered just a back up, but with Mike Tice now the coach of O-Line, I think the Bears will take a shot with him.  He was...

Do the Chicago Bears Need Another Running Back?

As the Bears cross the middle of their bye week, there are some legitimate concerns about their roster because of a number of injuries. One of the positions that's thin on the healthy depth chart is running back. The Bears made a commitment in the off season to giving their emerging star back, Matt Forte, a break every once in a while. The biggest step they made to secure Forte's legs staying healthy into January was retaining Kevin Jones this spring. But when Jones went down with a leg injury in the final preseason game, the team was left with only Adrian "Not God In Purple" Peterson and Garrett Wolfe as their backups to Forte. Neither strikes fear in opponents, and both are better served being productive in the special teams game...

Forte, Bears Run Away From Lions

In a season that's had lots of questions raised through only three weeks, Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte undoubtedly wanted to put up solid numbers on Sunday against a divisional foe from Detroit. He jumped out of the gates early with a 61-yard run in the first quarter, and added a 37-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter as the Bears put the Lions back in the loss column 48-24 on Sunday. Forte finished the day with 121 yards on 12 rushes, and surprisingly had almost as many yards on the ground as Jay Cutler did through the air in the Bears blowout victory. Cutler threw for just 141 yards, completing 18 of 28 attempts. Cutler also ran for a dramatic touchdown in the game, and did not turn the ball over. The game was...

Bears-Falcons Matches Two Marquee Quarterbacks

This weekend, the Chicago Bears travel to Atlanta for a prime time Sunday night game against the Atlanta Falcons. The game will feature two good defenses and two solid running games, but the headlines will be written by the two young quarterbacks. Jay Cutler and Matt Ryan are both standing in the doorway to the primes of their respective careers, and could be at the top of the NFC's signal calling group for the next decade. Tomorrow will be the first time they face each other as conference opponents, and both teams are challenging for playoff position. The Bears come off their bye week at 3-1 with a string of three consecutive impressive wins. The Falcons are also 3-1 after a surprising offensive show last week, beating the 49ers 45-10 behind a big day from Michael...
