The Montreal Canadiens totally destroyed the Carolina Hurricanes 6-1 at the RBC Center on Wednesday night. The Canadiens scored on the power play 3 times. Glen Metropolit scored twice and Andrei Markov scored once. Tomas Plekanec and Scott Gomez both had 3 assists apiece and Jaroslav Halak made 46 saves in the game.
Markov would put the Habs on the scoreboard first with a power play goal. Plekanec and Marc-Andre Bergeron would get assists on that goal. Andrei Kostitsyn would score later in the first period. Mike Cammalleri and Plekanec would get assists on that goal. The Canes would score their only goal in the game when Brandon Sutter scored on the power play. Tim Gleason and Brett Carson would get assists on the goal. Sergei Kostitsyn would add to the Habs lead when he scored on a tip-in. Plekanec and Gomez would get assists on the goal. Glen Metropolit would score on the power play to put the Habs up 4-1. Gomez and Josh Gorges would get assists on that goal. In the 2nd period, Metropolit would score another power play goal. Gomez and Jaroslav Spacek would get assist on that goal. There would be no scoring in the 3rd period.

The Canes outshot the Habs 47-25. Cam Ward would allow 3 goals on 7 shots and would get pulled in the 1st period. Manny Legace would replace Ward and he would get 16 saves on 18 shots.
During the early moments of the 2nd period, one Carolina fan in the upper deck could be heard chanting,

“We miss Lavi!” referring to Peter Laviolette, whom the Canes fired a year ago. That fan will see him in the next Hurricanes game when the Canes host the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday at the RBC Center.
For the Canadiens, they will travel to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs.
