The Celtics Need Ubuntu More Than Ever

 Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers

The Celtics have embraced Ubuntu for the last three years.  The first year they were in harmony with each other’s rhythms; they understood that together they were one.  Year two saw them struggle with the success from the previous year; they never got the opportunity to defend their title.

This is now year three and though the starters have been solid the bench has been hampered by injuries. Boston started out the season with a rush, but seems to be having problems adjusting to the younger legs of the opposing teams.

They do have an admirable record at 10-4, they still lead their division, but the Orlando Magic and the surprising Atlanta Hawks are the conference leaders.

They can’t seem to keep up with the speed of the game and the bench is a unit in disarray.  Doc River’s has even introduced a lineup of Rondo playing extended minutes with the bench players.  This cannot be a good thing in the long run.

The Celtics swore they didn’t need to get another point guard with the signing of Marquis Daniels; they touted him as a player who could play the point in a pinch.

I say give Lester Hudson a try give the young man the opportunity to prove he can run the team when it matters.   Everyone knows of Doc’s aversion to playing rookies, he should make an exception and give him two or three minutes to keep Rondo fresh.

The smallest of contributions can lead to a playoff win down the road.

The Celtics play the Philadelphia 76’ers tonight and Elton Brand has a new sense of purpose with the additional playing time.  The other A.I. will be there to see if Paul Pierce has any lingering effects from a strained knee.  Throw Thaddeus Young in the mix, and you get the idea; another young athletic team will be there to test the Celtics resolve, to test Ubuntu.

So  I asked myself if Doc Rivers could find a sentence to represent each letter in his philosophy, in Ubuntu what would it be?  His words should provide them with inspiration from their losses and to take solace in their overtime wins.  Imagine if he said this in his pregame speech:

Understand that it is a journey with many paths to a destination

Because it takes many paths to come to that one destination

Utilize all the lessons you learn along the way

New things occur along the same path

Treat each encounter with respect for without it you learn nothing

Ultimately you are in charge of your own destiny

This above all the Celtics know, they will stick to the game plan to fill the blank on that banner that sits in their practice facility.
