Boston Celtics vs New York Knicks in New York

There is something about playing under the bright lights of New York, the ‘empire state’ in Madison Square Garden.  Established NBA stars chose this venue as their personal proving ground, even if the Knicks are not must see TV.  Players such as Michael Jordan, Reggie Miller, Lebron James, and of course Kobe have each had classic moments that will be etched in the annals of basketball lore forever.

Last night wasn’t quite as dramatic for Paul Pierce, but he did save the Celtics face after camera’s caught Mr. Wahlberg sporting…gasp…horrors of horrors a hated New York Knicks jersey while at the game.  Don’t worry Boston fans; turns out he was only doing it for a movie.

It is clear that the sharpness and crispness that the Celtics exhibited in their first six games has somehow eluded the team.  Gone are the days when ball movement left opponents confused as the Celtics canned open threes, dunks and layups. Celtic opponents seem to have a new bravado when playing the Celtics and the problems are magnified because they are not healthy.

The second unit in particular needs a healthy Glen Davis to balance out the floor. But for one night Kendrick Perkins more than held his own with a double-double and Pierce refused to let the Celtics lose.

The New York Knicks tried to bully Boston in the paint and they almost succeeded until Eddie Curry reminded them of their dysfunction; he got a flagrant foul for knocking Rajon Rondo into the basketball support.

The mad scientist formerly known as Doc Rivers understands that injury has caused his starting unit to exert themselves a little more than he anticipated.  All in all they have done an admirable job.   There were rebounding concerns, they addressed that; now they must find away to take the kinks out of an offense that has become three point happy.

It is clear to see that they are taking too much one-on-one responsibility in order to get out of this funk.  The Celtics have to remember that they must do more than talk the walk of ubuntu and continue to work toward the greater goal.

Meanwhile, lower tier teams are hoping to take advantage of the early season disjointed play of the Celtics.

This win showed that Boston will bend and take its lumps during this growth process, let us hope that 20 games into the seasons we will see a more cohesive team.
