Is Rafer Alston a target for Danny Ainge
- By Frances White
- January 7th, 2010
The Celtics released Lester Hudson prior to Wednesday’s game in Miami. All this on the day the New Jersey Nets released Rafer Alston in a buyout.
Boston knows they are one hamstring tear away from losing Rajon Rondo, their mercurial point guard. They cannot afford to go through the season with Tony Allen or Eddie House as their only option.
Alston is a 10 year veteran with a little bit of a reputation as a malcontent. It is easy to see him as a less brittle version of Sam Cassell. His well televised slap of Eddie Houses’ head last year may be a source of tension, but a chance at a championship can smoothe this over. Rumor has it that the Miami Heat has the inside track on his services....
Allen, Rondo turn down the Heat in OT
- By Frances White
- January 7th, 2010
South Beach saw some unseasonable weather last night; the temperature was in the 40’s and the natives were forced to don sweaters to the game. The Miami Heat looked to make it just as frigid for the Celtics in-doors.
Pierce and Rondo were game time decisions as the Celtics limped into Miami.
Boston had managed to beat Toronto without them, but it would be a tall order to beat the ‘Flash’ on his home turf; fortunately for the Celtics they were both able to play.
Dwayne Wade lived up to his nickname by knifing his way to the hoop. Miami exposed Boston’s Achilles, by forcing Boston into 22 turnovers and crashing the offensive boards. At one point they got at least four offensive rebounds in a row but Miami was not...
Patchwork Celtics start the New Year with a win over Toronto
- By Frances White
- January 2nd, 2010
The Celtics were without Paul, KG and Rondo.
This was not a good sign and it seemed like they were going to lose their fourth game in a row. But a funny thing happened on the way to the TD Garden, someone forgot to tell the Celtics that.
The Celtics had a well-balanced attack and no one took over thirteen shots. The Celtics can breathe a sigh of relief that they learned how to play and win without the ‘big three’ intact. Rasheed Wallace displayed and array of offensive moves and rarely drifted out of the post.
Boston forced the Raptors into committing 16 turnovers and only three fast break points. The Celtics were able to maintain the lead and kept the pressure off of Ray Allen to carry the...
Paul Pierce Isn’t Cocky, Just Confident – and Right
- By Frances White
- January 2nd, 2010
“If we are healthy, we are going to win it all.” That’s what Paul Pierce told Yahoo! Sports in a phone interview last week regarding this upcoming season. Now why would he say such a thing? It’d be a little more accepted if he’d said it last year when the Green were about to begin their title defense. But the Celtics aren’t the reigning NBA champions anymore. In fact, questions continue to circle around the team regarding age, recovery, and their competition in the East. I mean, just look at the elite teams in the NBA right now like Boston, Cleveland, Orlando, San Antonio, and the Lakers. It’s almost impossible to say one team is the favorite over all of the others going into the season. And he just put a target on the...
Can Lester Hudson Really Back Up Rajon Rondo?
- By Frances White
- January 2nd, 2010
Usually, the 58th pick in the NBA Draft is an afterthought. Guys drafted that late that are lucky enough to make the roster are usually buried on the bench before they’re released, traded, or sent to the D-League. Even on the worst teams, it’s pretty much a given that the only minutes these guys will see will be during garbage time. So what in the world are the Boston Celtics doing by making the 58th pick their primary backup point guard? The Celtics drafted combo guard Lester Hudson out of Tennessee-Martin at No. 58, the only pick they had during the Draft this summer. Fans considered him a nice pickup considering where the Celtics were drafting. His ability to put the ball in the hoop allowed fans to think that he might be able...
Shelden Williams is the Boston Celtics Resident Landlord
- By Frances White
- January 2nd, 2010
Shelden Williams is best known for being the husband of Candace Parker. Parker is the heir apparent to being the face of the WNBA, Los Angeles Sparks. Like her counter-part Lisa Leslie she has given birth as a professional basketball player. I digress. Willliams’ career has been a minor bleep on the NBA radar. He has become a journeyman in his three years in the league. It used to be opponents would fear coming into the middle because the “landlord” did not like uninvited guests. At Duke, Williams was the defensive anchor and the Celtics saw him as a viable option for a draft choice. The Atlanta Hawks took him with the fifth pick in the draft and the Celtics were stuck with Randy Foye; whom they promptly traded. His collegiate stats proved...
