2010 AFC Championship Game: Rex Ryan Bowl? Why Inevitable May Be Reality
  • By Matt Miselis
  • January 15th, 2010

Heading into the 2009 playoffs, the AFC wild card race had been the talk of the league for the past month.

Eight teams had a shot at two wild card spots, most of them needing much help. In week 16 of the regular season, the wildcard took an unexpected turn when the New York Jets put themselves in position of win and get in.

After the controversial win over the previous undefeated Indianapolis Colts, followed by losses from the Ravens, Jaguars, Dolphins, and Broncos, New York sneaked into the playoffs in the final week of the season. The final seed in the playoffs was obtained by the Baltimore Ravens, who showed signs of promise along with inconsistency. With the victory over the Oakland Raiders, Baltimore for the second straight season, entered the playoffs as...

Ray Rice and Domonique Foxworth Are Peaking at the Right Time

All the good teams peak at the end of season, especially the postseason.

The Arizona Cardinals peaked during playoffs last season, and a NFC title and a trip to the Super Bowl was the result.

The Ravens peaked last year at the end of the season, going 3-1 in their final four games, then beat Miami and top-seeded Tennessee before falling in the AFC Championship. Two players that are key to the Ravens playoffs hopes alive, Ray Rice and Dominique Foxworth, are taking a bigger role in crunch time.

Foxworth, the starting cornerback, and Ray Rice, the starting Pro-Bowl running back.

Both of them have been called on to step their game up and they are answering. Foxworth was among one of the most criticized members of the much scorned Ravens secondary....

The Coaches Got It Right: Why Ray Rice Deserves His Pro Bowl Selection
  • By Matt Miselis

As the 2010 Pro Bowl results were released last night, I was anticipating to see the list for the first time, looking to see some surprising players make it in, or some that were left out. Most importantly, I wanted to see if the coaches and players that made up two-thirds of the voting put Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice on the roster.

After all, being the biggest target on the Ravens offense has as much to do with the Ravens having their postseason chances still a possibility. Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, and Maurice Jones-Drew were nominated for the AFC running backs.

One back who feels was left out in the cold was Cincinnati Bengal Cedric Benson, who had a career year and led his team to a division crown. There was...

Do Or Die For The Ravens?? A Win That Can Make Or Break The 2009 Season
  • By Matt Miselis
  • December 31st, 2009

The Baltimore Ravens, currently with a record of 3-3 and 3rd in the AFC North, come off their bye week with a home showdown against the undefeated Denver Broncos. After starting off to a hot 3-0 start, which included numbers of a top five offense, the purple and black have fallen the last three weeks within the final seconds.   With seeing victories by the Steelers, Bengals, Texans, Jets, and Chargers, this weeks match up could be labeled as a must win in order to stay within the AFC playoff hunt. With a record of 2-1 at home, the stats have shown that the Ravens has been more successful on the offensive side of the ball, along with some magic on the defensive side as well.   However, the Denver Broncos will be no easy...

Ravens Injury Report 10/8/09
  • By Matt Miselis
  • December 31st, 2009

Linebacker and special teams ace Brendon Ayanbendejo has been placed on the Injured Reserve list. In the 21-27 loss o the New England Patriots on Sunday, October 4th, Ayanbendejo tore his left quadriceps. The injury requires surgery to repair, and it is most likely he won't return this year. Ayanbendejo is a 3 time Pro-Bowler, going twice with the Chicago Bears in 2006 and 2007, and went to the Pro Bowl as a special teamer for the ravens in 2008. LT Jared Gaither suffered a scary neck injury against the Patriots, and has not yet participated in practice yet. He is listed as day-to-day, and said that there is a chance he would return Sunday against the Bengals. If not, RT Michael Oher will switch to left tackle. The 340 pound, 6 foot...

After 3 Heartbreakers Optimism Still Remains

The Ravens stand 3-3 going into their bye week. Obviously this isn't the ideal start the Ravens had hoped for. But you learn from mistakes, and you can't learn if you don't make mistakes. Obviously there are plenty of plays many players would like to take back, but they can't. The only thing that they can do now is learn. It's something no one wants to do, because they don't want to lose, but you can't be a good team without struggling. The Ravens started 3-3 last year, with nearly the identical team of this year, but decimated with injuries, and finished 11-5. Will the Ravens get criticized over this week and next? Yes. Will they get put down? Yes. Do they really care what others think? No. They never have,...
