A mixed bag of results

On Saturday I wrote about how the O's stacked up against the AL East.
Obviously, a big part of that question relates to the New York Yankees, who just happen to be the defending AL East, and MLB champions.
The O's have already played the Boston Red Sox once, losing 5-4 in a pretty good effort.
But on Saturday the Orioles played the Bronx Bombers for the first time.
As was the case in the loss to Boston, I think it's best to say that there were mixed results from that game.
Jeremy Guthrie went 3.1 innings, giving up four runs (three in the first inning).
That's something that needs to change right there.
As I've said before, the Orioles don't seem to have problems putting runs on the board for...
How will the O’s stack up in the AL East?

As has been chronicled, at the conclusion of the 2009 season Andy MacPhail extended manager Dave Trembley for another year, but he also said that Trembley would be measured more on wins and losses in 2010 than in the past.
The message: another 60 win season isn't acceptable this year.
The past two seasons have been spent breaking down, and preparing to build back up.
Now the majority of that process is done, and the Orioles have legitimate pieces in place to improve themselves.
Five years ago the Orioles had the likes of Javy Lopez, Sidney Ponson, Rodrigo Lopez, Bruce Chen, Larry Bigbie, Jay Gibbons, and Sammy Sosa.
What do all of those players have in common? They were all either total busts to begin with, or they were washed...
Hello Bergesen, and hello offense!

It's always a pleasure to get the chance to see the O's on television (MLB Network in this case), but it was certainly a bit different hearing things from the perspective of the Pirates' announcing team.
They weren't bad by any means, but...I would have preferred Gary Thorne! Nevertheless, the story of the day was that Brad Bergesen finally got into the act with his first start of the season.
One thing that I immediately noticed about Bergesen was that he hasn't lost anything on his fastball.
The one issue that I saw was that it was up a bit, but it's only his first spring training start.
Overall, I think he looked pretty good.
His final line: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R (both earned), 1 BB 0K.
Bergesen was...
The O's are in need of an 11th hour win

As I’m writing, I’m sitting down to watch this evening’s O’s vs. Tampa Rays game. Tonight’s match-up will be the first of several “lasts” for the O’s this weekend and this season. This is the last game of the last road series of the year for the Orioles, and thus the last time we’ll see those new away jerseys with BALTIMORE written across the front. (And incidentally the new road uniforms were a change that I was thrilled to see the Orioles make starting this year.) At the conclusion of the game, the team will head back to the airport, and board their team charter for the last time this season, bound once more for our beloved Old Line State. Unfortunately for the O’s, they’re a “perfect” 13 losses out of...

I go to a lot of sporting events throughout the course of the year. Most recently, I attended my twentieth Oriole game this season on September 6, 2009. The majority of those games were at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, although I did see the O’s three times in DC at Nationals Park, and once up in Boston at Fenway. Nevertheless, I feel that I’m somewhat of an authority on the topic of ballparks and stadiums, seeing that I go to so many each year. Just to name a few, I’ve been to Oriole Park at Camden Yards, FedEx Field, RFK Stadium, M & T Bank Stadium, Memorial Stadium, Cole Field House, Byrd Stadium, and Comcast Center among many others. In my opinion, Oriole Park at Camden Yards is the best...
Hecklers vs. Fans
- By Domenic Vadala

Different people have different names for them…some call them hecklers, some haters, and some antagonizes. But ultimately, we all know someone that falls into this category. When you’re a person such as myself that wears his sports loyalties on his sleeve, people sometimes latch onto that and tease you when things aren’t going so well for that particular team. To me, the worst ones are non-sports fans. (And while I’m on the topic, how is it possible that anyone couldn’t love sports?!) People that don’t like sports like to tease and taunt those that do to no end. Honestly, I think that non-sports fans were just born passionless. They see that us sports fans have that passion that they obviously lack, and that bothers them to no end. In truth, they’re...
